It’s Not About That - September 2026 “Hufflepuffs 4 Lyfe”
Every damn year the same damn thing. The overwhelmingly white, liberal parents of West Seattle will spend a Saturday waving a sign at one of those futile no kings rallies that do nothing for the community but won’t think for a single second about how their continued entrenchment in HP fandom alienates the trans people (kids included) in their actual communities. It’s so frustrating.

Making a journal or diary comic is a great way to incorporate a little creative practice into your life. You don’t even gotta be “good” at drawing, you just have to put stuff down on paper and see what happens!

Do-gooder derogation is a thing! I just misspelled it in my latest comic for @realchangenews - it’s worth noticing if you’re reacting to someone poorly maybe you’re reacting that way because you assume they are coming from a place of moral superiority. Most of the time, they’re probably not.

Check out new installments of It’s Not About That in @realchangenews in Seattle every third Wednesday of the month!

Spencer’s fifth grade teacher is a totally reasonable, intelligent person so when he mentioned during curriculum night that Spencer is grilling him about his ChatGPT usage I took it as an opportunity to pile on

Working through “Cartooning for the head and figure” by Jack Hamm on days when I feel uninspired to draw a diary comic. I feel like it’s improved how I draw emoting in my comics and lunch notes so that’s nice.

To be fair, Avery’s had this laptop for at least 5 years and uses it constantly every day so it’s reasonable to have to replace it. Except why did it have to be now

Our new thing is to go to the Southcenter Mall on a day off for a mall date, catching a movie in the big movie theater on the top floor. We got to see Primetime a day before its official release and absolutely loved it. Came home and whipped together a spicy hot pot dinner. A perfect day.

I’ve always held a “fuck around and find out” policy about bedtime with my kids. The next day I gently supported them through a rough morning where I reminded them they didn’t get enough sleep because they were up last night singing to themselves at something they were watching on their laptop at ONE AM IN THE MORNING the night before.
