Took @arborandfield Label Bourbon Infused Hickory Syrup out for a spin tonight and this stuff is GOOD.

I made a quick marinade with the hickory syrup, olive oil, Dijon, garlic, rosemary, sage, a little leftover gravy, Mexican árbol chile powder, salt and pepper. Tossed it with sweet potatoes, beets, carrots, shallots and walnuts, rubbed down a pork tenderloin with the same mixture and roasted everything together for about 40 minutes.

So simple. So good.

The syrup has these beautiful toffee, aged wood and dried berry notes, but my favourite discovery was pairing it with the árbol chile. Sweet, smoky, spicy and just enough heat. It worked ridiculously well with the pork and roasted vegetables.

Thank you, Ann and Jarred, for sharing your beautiful creation with us. ❤️

Give @arborandfield a follow, check out what they're making and support local. They're doing something pretty special.

My dad’s favorite restaurant was Windows on the World. He would share stories about getting to work on their HVAC systems over the years and how it was just an incredible view anytime he went up to the top of the tower.

I don’t even remember if I went on a job with him to the restaurant when I was younger (I definitely remember eating a steak in Peter Luger’s basement or having a burger at the Good Ole Days bar). Regardless, anytime I drove in his truck with him or frankly anytime I drove or walked down the west side highway, especially at night, I’d look up in amazement at these two massive structures.

Prior to 9/11 (in 99/2000) when I lived in Carroll Gardens, I would take my bike over the Brooklyn Bridge at night and take photos of the towers on a disposal camera. I probably photographed the towers dozens of times pre 9/11. Post 9/11 I could never get myself the courage to develop those photos (also cause I didn’t want to raise any flags of suspicion- f’d up I know but our world changed after that day).

I often think about those firefighters I met two weeks prior to 9/11 at Michael’s funeral, including Chaplain Mychal Judge. Just a few weeks later, the dozens of faces I saw and met at the funeral parlor, and who were lining the streets for a firefighter processional as we drove by with the family were themselves perished, sacrificing their own lives in the line of duty.

Sending all my love on this anniversary of remembrance to all those first responders, civilians, workers and tireless volunteers and their families who devoted and sacrificed their own lives on that day, and to those who helped restore and recover downtown Manhattan and our faith in humanity. by @christopherjette

Happy 5…..0th birthday to the amazing, hard working, globetrotting, culinary genius and most kind-hearted woman…who I’m proud to call my wife.

Ruby and I can’t wait to celebrate with you as you say au revoir to the 40s and embrace this exciting new chapter. And as a bonus, for the next 10 months you get to say you have a husband who is in his 40s! 😅😂

Happy birthday my love. by @christopherjette

What happens when you get some of Canada’s best - and the world’s best - pizza makers in the same room? The room where it happened? Magic.

Last night I got to celebrate these top pizza makers at a private event featuring over a dozen pizzerias, industry friends and content creators, and boy was there pizza to be eaten!

From Neapolitan to pepperoni, crab pizza, kimchi pizza, white pie with asparagus, beef patty pizza, and dozens of others variations I lost track of in the frenzy of the evening, each pizza maker (there were over a dozen pizzerias in attendance) tried to impress their peers and guests alike. I did my best to keep up with the pace (probably ate the equivalent of close to two pies 😂) but definitely threw in the towel at the end of the night.

Among my favorites were Mai Pai’s @maipaitiki crab pizza - all of their pies are ridiculously good but these buttery bites of crab blended perfectly with their airy Detroit style crust. The white asparagus pie from Giresi’s @giresispizza in Sarnia was my sneaky favorite, with the ricotta and mozzarella blending perfectly with bites of fresh asparagus. (@boabakery) Boa Bakeries award winning slice was legit in its simplicity and with the complexity of the slice from Bitter N Twisted’s (@bntpizza) Chef Anne - it was easy to see why her concoction won an award in Naples earlier this year.

Besides the delicious pizzas (Hamilton is starting to become a pizza powerhouse) what impressed me most was the camaraderie between all of the chefs and their staff - and how they gathered around to watch each other practice their craft. Also the excitement for each of them to try pizzas from each other was fun to see.

Some of the content creators like @joseph_video captured the evenings festivities way more eloquently than I did - I was too focused on eating and observing the magic in the room. taken in Cowabunga+ by @christopherjette

What a week we had! Ms @_rubycita gave us quite a scare. She was lethargic and completely off. Got her into vet Monday, they took some tests, and her bloodwork showed her platelets were extremely low (6 in fact when the low normal is 145). She was admitted to the emergency vet hospital overnight, put on IV and more tests were conducted. Fast forward, after ultrasounds and multiple tests, we learned she has a tick-borne illness called anaplasmosis despite being on Nexguard. She is on a whack of meds and improving, finally eating. In fact the last pic is of her begging for Chris' dinner. We are so grateful to the team at @copetown_animal_hospital for their impeccable care and love for our girl. We are also thankful to the team at Holly's Pride in Ancaster for flagging her lethargy while in their care on Sunday evening, and checking in with us multiple times this week. Our girl isn't out of the gate, but definitely getting better. She is an example of resilience and strength, and we love her to pieces. ❤️ Ticks are assholes. Be careful. by @christopherjette

@lindsaydeefholts got me an OSTBA deli meat slicer for our anniversary. We put it to good use today slicing up some Schwartz’s Smoked Meat and Swiss, served on fresh marble Rye and sauerkraut acquired from St. Lawrence Market for an epic Reuben. Of course gotta have a side of pickles, Russian and mustard. Next up? Maybe a homemade roast beef or turkey or brisket. Stay tuned. by @christopherjette

This weekend was one for the books! A surprise visit from @petermgay to see Gaga (thanks to my sweet and kind @christopherjette who gave up his ticket), to a hilarious lunch and Ikea visit with my crew, to morning dim sum today....my heart is full. I don't need a 50th celebration next year. Nothing can top this. Also, Mayhem may be the BEST show I have ever seen. Go go go!!!! taken in Toronto, Ontario by @christopherjette

Tried a new experience in our favorite country on this planet - Mexico. We rented this amazing penthouse condo in La Cruz de Haunacaxtle, a fishing based village about 45 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta.

Very lovely and definitely inhabited with locals (full time or seasonal), La Cruz is not overrun with tourists, providing us with the ability to go at our own pace - and frankly at their pace. No pressure of adhering to a dining schedule at a resort nor feeling confined, La Cruz is both authentic and welcoming. Unassuming yet grand in its own ways.

The residents are hard working and friendly, eager to please and welcoming, even if your Spanish is rudimentary like mine. The local dogs are super friendly as well, whether they’re street dogs or owned, they wandered the streets and protected their properties with a welcoming tail wag and accepting of a scratch on their heads. Perhaps they were emblematic of their environment - laid back, not in a rush, and enjoying the warmth of this west coast Mexican beach town.

The food was equally delicious, with lots of family run places turning out authentic fare. The fish was fresh off the boat, and you could find fresh produce and tortillas and other handmade goodies everywhere you turned - from a corner store to those who hustled in the streets to bring their delicious offerings to you.

If you’re looking for something authentic, and don’t mind being outside of a resort type environment, you should consider visiting La Cruz. taken in La Cruz de Huanacaxtle, Riviera Nayarit by @christopherjette
