🌿 Lyme Disease Awareness Month is here, and we’re on a mission to ensure no one walks into this fight blindly.

When @micaelahoo and I found ourselves at hell’s gate navigating Lyme and chronic illness, we were overwhelmed by conflicting advice, endless trial-and-error, and a sea of “woo woo” and fluff. We learned the hard way—and created a groundbreaking course so others wouldn’t have to.

💚 Our course saves people from the confusion with clear, actionable guidance, personalized strategies, and the hacks we developed to break it all down.

✨ No one has done this before —especially in a way that respects each individual’s unique healing journey. What works for YOU matters most.

🎧 We also offer an audiobook, online course community, and one-on-one coaching to support those navigating the complex road of chronic illness.
💬 Our monthly healing meetups create a space for connection, support, and shared wisdom.

As board members for Project Lyme and mentors for Global Lyme Alliance, we’re passionate about making real, lasting change—and this month, more than ever, we need your help to get the word out.

Join us. Share this. Let’s make sure no one is left struggling alone in the dark. @globallymealliance @projectlyme

Hey CH love-bugs! (pun intended 😉) Another summer, another hack... but we’re not playing defense anymore. Learn how to safely remove a threat before it latches on. From ticks to tricks, we’ve got you covered babes!

1. Fine-tipped tweezers: Grasp the tick as close to the skin’s surface as possible and pull upward with steady, even pressure. This is the gold standard method 1.
2. Tick removal tools: Tools like @tick.mitt from our lovely friend and founder @oliveabrams designed to mop up the tick on surfaces.
3. Thread loop method: If tweezers aren’t available, you can loop a piece of thread around the tick’s mouthparts and gently pull upward. It’s trickier but can work in a pinch
4. Needle assist: For deeply embedded ticks, a sterilized needle can help lift the tick’s head slightly so tweezers can get a better grip.
5. Professional removal: If the tick is in a sensitive area (like near the eyes) or you’re unsure, it’s safest to have a healthcare provider remove it.

⚠️Avoid old-school myths like using matches, petroleum jelly, or nail polish-those can actually make things worse by causing the tick to release more pathogens! Stay safe out there hackers.🌟

Meet Ashley Baker—our colleague, friend, and fellow Lyme warrior and board member at @projectlyme. As a fellow dedicated Lyme ambassador and a valuable member of our board, she’s been an unwavering advocate for those navigating the complexities of this misunderstood disease. @ashtheartistofficial

Ashley’s journey with Lyme didn’t begin with a tick bite—it began with a knee injury and pain. Her sudden, debilitating symptoms left her bedridden at 23, and after nearly a year, she received an unexpected call: she had tested positive for Lyme. Yet, the treatment she was offered ignored the true depth of her illness. It wasn’t until she found an LLMD that she finally got the care she deserved—care that validated her symptoms, located her encephalitis, and set her on the path to healing.

Little fact: Knee injury is very common with lyme when it first came out. Before Lyme disease was formally recognized, it was often referred to as Montauk Knee or Swollen Knee, as children in Long Island experienced severe knee pain and arthritis-like symptoms. The disease wasn’t officially identified until 1975, when a cluster of cases in Lyme, Connecticut, brought attention to its true nature.

Now, Ashley refuses to be a victim of Lyme disease. Instead, she’s a fierce advocate for patients who, like her, have felt lost and unheard. Through her work as a musician, speaker, and board member, she is reshaping how the world sees Lyme—challenging the misconceptions that dismiss those still fighting to get well.

“Lyme disease is not just a tick bite and a bullseye rash—it’s a lifelong battle for many, including those who never recall being bitten at all”. If there’s one thing Ashley wants the world to know, it’s this: “Your symptoms and experiences are valid. You deserve healing”. 💚

Faces Of Lyme: Meet Joe Cusamano — a dear friend, fierce advocate, and warrior within the Lyme community. Together with his co-founder and friend @jcutler80 (Josh), they built The Healing Dudes, a space dedicated to guiding others through the path of healing, much like Chronically Hacked. @thehealingdudes @joec.333💚

Joe’s journey was initially shaped by relentless symptoms—depersonalization, unexplained anxiety, fatigue, dizziness, and vertigo. But through deep healing work, they discovered methods that changed everything, one of their favorite methods is Vagus nerve training and brain retraining.

Through their Healing Club, they help others embrace the three pillars of healing: Regulate, Rewire, Restore—empowering people to reclaim their health and rewrite their own healing stories.

Joe’s message to the world? “Become your own best healer. Healing is messy and uncertain, but it is possible when you refuse to give in to fear or doubt”.

Follow @thehealingdudes for more great information!

Faces Of Lyme: Meet Jake Mayers—a force in the Lyme world, a friend, and a leader. One of the true beauties of the chronic illness journey is how we all find each other seamlessly, forming a community of resilience, understanding, and deep compassion. Salt of the earth, through and through. @jakemayerscoaching

Jake endured 10 years of mysterious, acute illness and near-death experiences before receiving a proper Lyme Disease diagnosis. “The physical and emotional pain was intense, unpredictable, and hard to describe—like being on day three of a bad flu, every single day, often worsening without warning for weeks or even months. After finally getting diagnosed, I spent over six years undergoing aggressive treatments that only amplified the pain, often leaving me feeling disconnected from my body and unable to function”. But through it all, Jake has emerged as a powerful advocate—helping others take control of their own healing journeys through his business Jake Mayers Coaching.

His message is clear: “Lyme is incredibly widespread yet deeply misunderstood—and no two journeys look the same. What matters most is that every Lyme Warrior feels empowered to take control: to advocate for themselves, pursue the treatments that are right for them, and refuse to let the disease define them. Healing is possible. Keep listening to your body, seeking joy and purpose, and believing in the life that still awaits you. Your struggle is real, your story matters, and you’re never alone”.

Follow Jake at @jakemayerscoaching and keep pushing forward.💚

Faces of Lyme: The Heart and Strength of Atty Cleworth💚

Atty is more than just an advocate—she is a force of nature, a beacon of hope, and a fierce protector of those suffering in silence. A dear friend of ours and a cherished soul within the Lyme community, she has turned her pain into purpose, fighting not only for herself but for every person battling this misunderstood illness.

Atty and her mother were the visionary producers behind @imnotcrazyimsickfilm, a film that brought the terrifying realities of infectious diseases to the forefront. It wasn’t just a movie—it was a revelation, a voice for the unheard, a bridge between ignorance and understanding. Her work has been life-changing, shedding light on the devastating impact of Lyme disease and giving people the education they desperately needed.

But Atty’s story is not just about what she has done—it’s about who she is. Her journey has been shaped by hardship and resilience, a battle that began far too young:

“The initial pain I experienced was an onslaught of debilitating OCD symptoms and crippling fatigue when I was just 8 years old. My body could not keep up with life’s daily routines and activities and I slowly became very isolated. It took me hours to complete very simple tasks because my mind was overtaken by obsessions and compulsions.

If I could share one thing with the world about Lyme, it would be that one of the hardest parts is being doubted, especially by those closest to you and from whom you thought you’d receive support. On top of being physically ill, having to prove that you don’t feel well to people around you on a daily basis is horrific. If you meet someone with Lyme, the kindest thing you can do is believe them.”

She has lived through the pain, the dismissal, the exhaustion—but through it all, she has risen. Atty continues to dedicate herself to the Global Lyme Alliance, fighting for awareness, funding, and the simple human right to be believed. Her heart is enormous, her spirit unbreakable, and her impact immeasurable. @attyclew @fieldhousepictures. We are forever grateful for her voice, and her kindness.

Introducing Kristen Harris: A Voice for Lyme Warriors🤍

✨The first face of our Faces of Lyme campaign. As an advocate and dedicated leader at the Global Lyme Alliance, Kristen is a fierce champion for those battling Lyme disease. A dear friend to @diannabrescia, @micaelahoo, and our community, she works tirelessly to raise awareness, support patients, and push for better research and treatments.

Kristen’s journey with Lyme disease began with pain and weakness on her left side, stretching from her head to her toes. Over time, these symptoms led to cognitive difficulties and memory challenges. Through it all, she has remained steadfast in her mission to educate and empower others facing the same struggles.

Her message to the world is simple yet profound: “Be your own best advocate when seeking a diagnosis and appropriate care. It’s also important to connect with the Lyme community, which offers incredible knowledge and resources. Remember, you are not alone!”

🦟 Lyme Disease Awareness Month—a reminder that vector-borne diseases aren’t just spread by ticks! Many insects can carry infections, and knowing what to watch for is key to protection.

Other insects that can spread Lyme and serious infections:
- Mosquitoes (West Nile Virus, Malaria, Dengue, Zika)
- Bed Bugs & Fleas (Bartonella)
- Lice (Borrelia recurrentis, Bartonella)
- Midges & Sandflies Leishmaniasis, Blue Tongue Virus)
- Brown Recluse Spiders (Their bites can cause necrotic wounds and lead to secondary infections.)

🛡️Tips for protection, especially in warmer months:
- Dress smart—wear long sleeves, light-colored clothing, and tuck pants into socks when hiking.
- Use natural repellents—essential oils like lemon eucalyptus, citronella, and cedarwood can help deter insects.
- Check yourself, kids & pets—regular tick checks after outdoor time can prevent bites from going unnoticed.
- Avoid peak hours—stay away from heavily infested areas, especially at dawn and dusk when mosquitoes are most active.
- Create a safe space—maintain your yard by keeping grass trimmed and using safe insect deterrents.

Knowledge is power! Protect yourself, spread awareness, and stay safe.💚
