Hi, I’m Micaela.

I wanted to share a proper introduction.

Here’s a glimpse into where I’m from and what I’m building.

Consider this a welcome to me. by @micaelahoo

Romanticizing it because the alternative is not.

Chronic illness is realizing just how much of your life is spent recovering from things other people don’t have to think twice about.

The fatigue isn’t just being tired. It’s the kind that settles into your bones, makes getting dressed feel like an accomplishment, and turns an ordinary afternoon into something you need to recover from.

I’ve learned to laugh at the sickly Victorian of it all—but behind the joke is a life that requires a lot of rest, pacing, cancelling, recalibrating, and trying again tomorrow.

Some days I can do more. Some days this is the whole day.

And yes, occasionally the best coping mechanism is pretending I’ve been prescribed bed rest in 1897. by @micaelahoo

I’ve always been drawn to the quiet, in-between moments most people hardly notice. That’s what first sparked my love of photography.

But let’s back up a little.

My first love wasn’t photography. It was reading.

Then came writing. Next, fashion, followed by photography and videography. Later came graphic design, which I studied in art school.

But even before I could read, I loved to paint.

Painting, drawing, working in the garden beside my mom—at the root of it all was the same impulse: to create.

Creating is what has always kept my heart beating.

Still, I continually found my way back to writing and photography. Both allow me to preserve moments that will never exist in quite the same way again—to create little time capsules.

That same sense of intention runs through everything we do at My July, the clean skincare brand my mom and I created together. The line was born from my chronic illnesses—what I have come to consider their silver lining. My July now feels woven into my DNA, inseparable from who I am.

Creating My July Mood, our collection of fine art prints felt like a natural extension: another deeply personal part of me finding a home within the brand.

I worked hard on this collection to ensure each image captured the feeling of My July: nostalgia, comfort, and the sense of well-being that inspires the gentle, simple skincare we create.

It brings me so much joy to bring these two parts of my life together. I hope these prints bring a little of that same joy and beauty into your home, too.

In harmony with nature,
Micaela

“Dost thou love life? Then do not squander time, for that’s the stuff life is made of.”
—Benjamin Franklin, Poor Richard’s Almanack

I think about that often, and what it means to me.

I could go into a whole rhetoric here about how, as someone living with chronic illness, I cherish time—and my good days—all the more dearly. How, to me, time is a feather floating through the air that I’m trying to grasp and hold onto. How it’s a tennis ball rolling down a hill that I’m forever trying to keep up with. How it’s an exquisite piece of chocolate I’m trying to savor slowly. And how, despite my impatient constitution, perhaps my greatest lesson has been to—cliché be damned—trust the timing.

But I think the heart of the matter is much simpler: life is the greatest gift we’re given, and perhaps the truest expression of our gratitude for it is to make the most of our own existence, in whatever way that means to each of us.

To be here.
To notice it.
To hold it close while we can. by @micaelahoo

It’s an Instagram world, and we’re all living somewhere between the highlight reel and everything it leaves out.

As someone who is chronically ill, creating content can be draining. When I dress up, people sometimes say, “You look great, you must be feeling better!” And occasionally, that’s true. More often, though, I’m enjoying myself while also running on empty.

It feels good to get dressed, put on makeup, and recognize myself in the mirror again. But I’m usually counting down the hours until I can crawl back into bed and recover.

Wherever life finds you right now—living with chronic illness, carrying something no one else can see, or simply feeling like you’re in your best era—I’m sending love.
