Hi friends! 🩷

I'm in a massive reading slump since finishing my 14th, 15th, maybe even more? reread of Vampire Academy. 🫠

And so I'm also not really posting because I'm not finishing any books. So here's me hopping on this trend probably way too late.

Also, I kinda cheated with the fictional crushes there but also kinda not. As a professional overexplainer, I explain my reasoning in the last slide whilst also comparing Dimitri's and realizing I will most likely always fall for any guy named Dimitri 🫡 bonus points if he's got blood all over his face 🥵

Happy Tuesday, friends! 🩷

💭 How are you doing? What have you been reading? It's been a while since I've posted but I have tried to keep up with your posts. Let me know if I missed one!

𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶 𝗿𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄 𝗼𝗳 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗠𝗮𝘀𝗸 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗶𝗿𝗿𝗼𝗿𝘀 ↓

A slow and confusing start, but I really like the main characters and the relationships they have with each other. But ultimately I'm not sure I understand everything (the magic system is barely explained, it's just there and it's complicated), yet somehow I guessed the Rook's identity early on. Don't know how I even did that😂

I'm intrigued to continue though!

📚 TBR JAR PICK FOR AUGUST 📚

📖 House of Open Wounds by Adrian Tchaikovsky

I didn't enjoy book one at all, but I hear this is so much better and isn't a direct sequel. I don't remember where I read that, but I hope it's true because I remember nothing from book one except that I disliked it! 😅

Happy Wednesday! 🩷

Started a new job this week so I haven't been on booksta much and need to catch up!

Alsooo why do I see no one talking about the new Six of Crows short story? 😭

I spent a lot of time on the secret code in this little book (yep I'm that dumb🥲) but the pay-off was so worth it! My heart 🫠

Who has picked it up yet? Or are you going to pick it up? Or what are you reading this week? by @chroniclesofashieldmaiden

Hopping onto this trend as well because I still have not read enough books to post about🥲

And I don't want to overdose you with the last 3 VA books in a row 🙃

Also, this is an old photo, but I haven't taken a selfie or a decent photo of myself in forever so this will have to do. 🤷‍♀️ (Anyone else hates posting photos of themselves?)

📚 Book review: Talking with Female Serial Killers by Christopher Berry-Dee 📚

This was my July tbr jar pick and as I said in a previous post I feared a rant review was coming for this one.

I am going to try to be civil, though, unlike the author.

So let's start with something that isn't offensive. While this is a book promoted as TALKING with female SERIAL killers there's little correspondence with these female serial killers in the book. Also, almost half of the women that are talked about are one-off killers. The typos in this book are also countless, by the way.

The author also really likes to pat himself on the back and self-promote. He references to his other works a lot and his book "Monster" was the foundation for the movie "Monster" with Charlize Theron, based on serial killer Aileen Wuornos. Which is very peculiar, as the movie came out before the book.

Now on to the offensive stuff... This author is fatphobic and homophobic. There's no doubt these female (serial) killers committed horrible crimes, but I don't think it's professional at all when you basically rate their "evilness" by how attractive they are.

Here are some examples used, literally just taken from the page:
"This overweight lump of disgusting humanity", "the ugly and overweight [name killer]", "this murderous and manipulative freak of nature", "this homicidal piece of work", "despicable woman", "these two items of human scum"

And there are plenty more where these came from! It was obvious he despised the killers who didn't live up to his beauty standards more than those he deemed attractive.

I also mentioned he is homophobic. I'm not sure I can write down examples here. Does IG flag posts like that, even if it's to warn people not to read a book?

Anyway, there's plenty more to say (like how he thinks the women he interviewed definitely had a crush on him/wanted to marry him and how that flattered him) but I've got to stop because I'm getting angry all over how unprofessional this author is.

💭 What do you think? Am I overreacting here?

This is a 1 ⭐️ by the way. Do not recommend. by @chroniclesofashieldmaiden

Happy Monday, friends! 🩷

How was your weekend? Did you get any reading done in the heat? 🌞

Despite being in a huge slump whilst reading The Tapestry of Fate, this was a 5 star read.

I actually loved this sequel more than the first book. The first one focused more on the adventure aspect, and while we do get a little bit of adventure in the sequel, there's a lot of focus on politics and court intrigue.

Amina was still the main character, but I feel this was just as much Dalila's story and I thoroughly enjoyed that.

💭 Do you still give 5 stars to a book that took you a lot of time to finish? by @chroniclesofashieldmaiden

READING MY PHYSICAL TBR 📖 JULY TBR PICK

I picked Talking With Female Serial Killers for July! I was looking forward to reading this until I looked up the reviews and I have to agree with them even though I'm not even a 100 pages in. This author was probably the last person who should have written a book like this. I feel a rant review coming when I finish this one 🫣

Happy Friday, friends! 👋🏻

💭 How are you doing? What have you been reading/watching?

So here I am again with the next Vampire Academy book, Shadow Kiss, and another 3 quotes to convince you to read it.

If the previous books didn't convince you, that's fair. But this book has a quote that should at least pique your interest! 👀

‼️Don't read the last quote on the last slide if you don't want spoilers ‼️

Unless you do need that nudge to start the series of course 😈 by @chroniclesofashieldmaiden

📚 JUNE WRAP-UP 📚

June wasn't the best reading month for me. It started out wonderful, though, with some amazing rereads. But rereading a favorite series made me fall into a slump and I'm still crawling out of it.

🧛🏻‍♀️ Spirit Bound by Richelle Mead - 5 ☆
❤️ Last Sacrafice by Richelle Mead - 5 ☆
🧛🏻‍♀️ The Girl With A Thousand Faces by Sunyi Dean - 4.5 ☆
❤️ Lore Olympus volume 10 by Rachel Smythe - 5 ☆
🧛🏻‍♀️ The Everlasting by Alix E. Harrow - 3 ☆
❤️ Homeseeking by Karissa Chen - 3 ☆

I was really bummed out I didn't enjoy The Everlasting more. I expected it to be a 5 star read.
