I hope this video conveys just how special the Triple Split is from @alangesoehne. In typical Lange fashion, it’s underrated on the front and epically complex and beautiful on the back.

The watch can time two events up to twelve hours long. This may sound simple, but it requires dual hands for each subdial and all the mechanisms to link all 6 hands used for timing together. Each subdial actually two hands carefully stacked on top of each other, showing the hours, minutes, and seconds for both events.

This mechanism creates unusual depth and striking visual appeal. Many Lange watches look like little cities when you look closely, but this one is exceptional.

The Triple Split complication is more of an engineering flex than a practical function, at least to me. But this kind of accomplishment definitely earns my respect.

Today I risked it all by trying to fix a rare indie watch by myself.

I was really excited to receive this Moonphase I by Felipe Pikullik, but pretty quickly I realized it had been damaged by the previous owner. The moon phase has stopped advancing.

Under the microscope it was clear that the small pawl used to advance the moon phase every 24 hours was just barely out of alignment. It couldn’t quite push the wheel far enough to snap it into the next position, so that wonderful 3d moon was stuck.

In a situation like this you only really have one choice, which is to send the watch to be repaired. I shot Felipe a quick video and he agreed to fix it. But before sending it in I realized I’d much rather try repairing this watch myself. I figured if I fail I can still send it in, and I’d have a great time trying regardless what happens.

Fortunately this repair was a success. A little pressure on the pawl was enough to bend it back into working shape. Felipe if you read this I apologize for likely mishandling your work. I am by no means an expert. I will say that this little adventure made me appreciate the work you put into your watches even more - they are excellent all the way to the core. by @chrono.sf

This “darth” Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar was my first Lange and still one of my favorites. Such a beast, and one you can wear on the beach or at something formal. Ref 345.036. by @chrono.sf

The 1815 Up/Down in pink gold and blue dial, ref 234.042. Created in a limited edition of 25 to celebrate 25 years of partnership between Lange and Wempe. Despite not being a regular production model, this is arguably the most appealing of the 1815 Up/Down lineup. by @chrono.sf
