You do not need a car to have a cute little fall weekend outside of NYC!!! 🍎🚆

We took the Metro-North from Grand Central to Beacon and basically built the perfect carless fall side quest from there.

We ate good, explored Main Street, went apple picking, drank wine, touched some grass and stayed overnight at The Roundhouse.

And honestly, taking the Hudson Line up is half the fun. Get a window seat because the views are VERY much giving “maybe I should leave New York more often.”

The itinerary:

🚆 Metro-North Hudson Line → Beacon
🍎 Apple picking at Lawrence Farms Orchards
🍷 Wine at Vino y Estilo
🏨 Overnight at The Roundhouse
🍳 Breakfast + wandering around Beacon

No rental car. No complicated itinerary. Just get on the train and go!!!

Save this for your next fall side quest + send it to the friend you keep saying you need to take a trip with 🫡

Build your October curriculum 🎃📚

These are the library classes I think you should know about this month.

Whether you want to make something with your hands, learn a new skill, meet new people, or just find a reason to leave the house as the weather gets colder, there’s something on the syllabus for you.

Still on my mission to get 100,000 people into the library 🫡

I lived in Texas for 8 years and was at a breaking point! I knew it was either DC or NY and luckily I found a unit i could transfer to in NY first!

On being a nerd! Haha I have a long list of my activities in high-school I invented a new way of writing to pass notes, I also made up a language because I was bored!

This is my old studio with a few of my favorite piecesss

I made library scout as a side project practicing the skills I had learned at the library and at work!

There are sooooo many city resources and I love finding and taking advantage of them :).

I LOOOVE HOSTING - if you came to any one of my past events thank ya! I hope to see you all at another one in the future. I believe in the power and value of community!

I love to run but it all started with me not liking it

@therudurudu  is the brand!

If I can find a sitter and good flight I will leave eek the country

My mic cut out, so my editor helped replace the voice! It sounds a little off, but I’m out of the country and couldn’t re-film 🫠

This week’s theme: Things We Carry. 🍂

Photos, family stories, repaired clothes, saved seeds, symbols, and even flavors — little ways we keep things moving forward.

This week also includes a few University Open Air favorites, and the Adinkra class might be the one I’m most excited about.

We took the train from NYC to Beacon, then a rideshare to Lawrence Farms Orchards for apple picking, cider donuts, and a little time outside.

This week’s theme: Things We Carry.

A little syllabus about the things that follow us through time: photos, family stories, worn clothes, seeds, symbols, and even flavors.

🗓️ This week includes classes with @nypl, @bklynlibrary + @qplnyc on scrapbooking, visible mending, oral history, seed saving, Adinkra symbols, and food preservation.

🧵 WEDNESDAY SOLO DATE
Bring an old jacket, jeans, or sweater to The Art of Mending at Brooklyn Central and learn patchwork, appliqué + Sashiko-inspired visible mending.

After, head to Rhodora in Fort Greene for natural wine + food. Their zero-waste approach feels like a very fitting follow-up to a class about repairing instead of discarding.

🌱 University Open Air is happening right now, so the weekend is stacked.
A few of my favorites:

Saving Seeds for Tomorrow at Greenpoint Library
Adinkra at Brooklyn Central
Tasting Time at Brooklyn Central

And the Adinkra class might be the one I’m most excited about. You’ll learn traditional Akan symbols from Ghana that carry proverbs, values, and ideas across generations, then create your own design on fabric.

📖 Homework: ask your librarian for a book about the things we inherit, preserve, or choose to carry forward.

Try: The Anthropologists — Ayşegül Savaş
