You (all) are cordially invited to my thesis show, “Eileen’s Daughters” at Meyerhoff Gallery in Baltimore Maryland!

I can’t believe my time at MICA is coming to an end. I am SO excited to finally show the art I’ve been working on (and crying over) for the last two years.

This one is really for us. I am still at a loss for words with the unconditional support I have received during my MFA program. Thank you isn’t enough, so I hope this work is. Love y’all.

See you at the opening reception APRIL 12th from 5-7pm ❤️‍🔥 by @ciarrakwalters

My first mention in print

Patron Mag’s April/May 2023 Issue with the legend, Senga Nengudi.

I’ve been studying Senga Nengudi for years. Her, along with the other artists that were involved with JAM (Just Above Midtown Gallery). They have inspired my outlook on art and what it is meant for. They made me understand the importance of community and using your practice to integrate and inspire the people around you.

So to have this body of work recognized in a SENGA NENGUDI INTERVIEW is absolutely mind blowing. Senga taught me how to use material, look at it, be with it. She taught me how to play. To expand.

I just can’t believe this. To Senga: thank you for your honesty, vulnerability, love, care, community, and example. It is an HONOR.

A very very special thank you to my friend and talented writer @lynds.tk for coming all the way to Baltimore to do a studio visit with me and hear about this work and the life that inspired it.

A special thank you to my friend and talented curator, art caretaker, @breeanant (who is also mentioned in the article) for including me in the upcoming exhibition “Senga Taught Me” and for being by my side through this process of making this work.

Mommy, we’re doing it 🥹

“6 Emerging Black American Artists to Keep On Your Radar”

I made it to my first list. Want to thank @lookatdominique and @cultured_mag for including me.

I want to thank my sister Hallie @justsomeemogirll for all that she does. She is the reason I’ve been able to pursue my master’s and has been helping me raise our two younger sisters as I chase my dreams. I can’t thank you enough Hallie. I love you. Thank you for being my rock.

In tears. Thank you to my community for your endless support, love, and belief in me. taken in Baltimore, Maryland by @ciarrakwalters

In 2022 l officially moved out of LA and took a solo cross country road trip. I photographed and documented my performances in some of my favorite Chakra colors across eight states in one week. A life changing trip.

I named this series “Dying is Easy”

Aside from my multiple near death experiences (a bear sniffing my tent, a lightning storm following me from Sequoia National Park to Maryland, being a black woman driving through middle America alone!!), I learned how easy it is to die.

I was letting go of my old life to exist in this new one where I was the guardian of my sisters (it was no longer just about me) and I had to face a place I had been running away from since I was 18 (Maryland).

For my next collection of limited edition postcards I decided on this series. You can collect all 6 or just one!!

All are signed, numbered, and dated.
Editions of 31 and 32. Printed on heavy 16-17pt stock.
The front side (photograph) features a coated matte finish.

Looking forward to seeing how you all frame these 🤩 taken in United States of America by @ciarrakwalters

My best work is going to come from this city.” — Ciarra K. Walters

Some artists come to Baltimore for school. Ciarra stayed because of how it made her feel.

“One word that describes Baltimore is warm. Being here as an artist has been a life-changing experience. I’ve always felt welcome. By the community. By the artists.”

That warmth is not an accident. It is what this city builds.

𝗕𝗘𝗬𝗢𝗡𝗗 𝗧𝗛𝗘 𝗕𝗢𝗥𝗢𝗨𝗚𝗛𝗦 is Good Black Art annual artist list and peer-to-peer mentorship program spotlighting emerging artists paving their own paths in the art world. This year we’re in Baltimore and its neighboring regions.

Ciarra K. Walters is an interdisciplinary artist and educator based in the Baltimore area. She holds an MFA in Photography and Media & Society from the Maryland Institute College of Art (@marylandinstitutecollegeofart) and has exhibited across the country including at the California African American Museum (@caamuseum). Working primarily with eggshells, her practice spans performance, photography, printmaking, and sculpture, using the body as both subject and site to explore fragility, lineage, and self-discovery.

Ciarra was also a past Good Black Art Spotlight Artist, and we are proud to welcome her back as part of the 2026 cohort.

I remember @phillipmichaelcollins visiting my MFA thesis exhibition, “Eileen’s Daughters” in 2024. In 2025 Good Black Art interviewed me and made a video about my practice and journey with the eggshells. Now in 2026, I am in deep gratitude to announce that I am in @goodblackart BEYOND THE BOROUGHS campaign.

Throughout the year, they’ll share stories and advice about navigating the industry from this cohort of artists. Stay on the lookout for that 🌟🌟🌟

Thankful for all that GBA does for us 🫂

Bid on Ciarra K. Walters’ “Untitled,” 2024 today!

This 18 in. x 25 in. silkscreen on Japanese okawara paper is printed with custom mixed ink. The artwork is unframed.

Walters, @ciarrakwalters, was born in Norfolk, Virginia (1992), but raised in Prince George’s County. She pursued her MFA in Photography + Media & Society from The Maryland Institute College of Art (2024).

Her interdisciplinary approach to art includes performance, film, photography, printmaking, and sculpture. Her art practice uses the body as a site of agency to explore mortality, transformation, cycles, and the relationship between the self and the earth. Photography ties together each medium, where versions of photographs take center stage in her paintings, silkscreen prints, and sculptures. Walters' performances are spontaneous and intuitive, and her movements become a language that speaks to her atmosphere.

Proceeds from this auction support Afro Charities’ 2027 operating expenses — the staff salaries, archival supplies, and public programs that help us bring the AFRO Archives to the public.
