👋 RISOGRAPH ART & ZINE FEST 👋

For the first time ever… Secret Room Press is coming to Los Angeles! In 7 years of publishing, we’ve somehow never tabled a show in LA. Holy moly! What better opportunity than to come down for RAZ at Nucleus Gallery?

RAZ Fest 2026
Sept. 19th + 20th
11-5pm

We’ll have tons of comix, art prints, postcards, and other surprises!

Also, we’ll be in town for a couple days after tabling and it’s been a while since we’ve visited da big city. What kind o’ fun stuff should we get up to? Who wants to hang out?

🍎 MoCCA Fest 🍎
Secret Room Press is headed to New York to take a bit outta da big apple this week! We'll be tabling with all our books (including our new anthology Do You Love Me?), a bunch of RISO prints, and a very special NY-only sticker... reveal coming soon.
Honored to be a part of this festival and so stoked for the absolutely insane lineup of talented comix folks. We'll be tabling at 123, right between our pals @zinehug and @floatingworldcomics. A heck of a row!
.
What kind of buffoonery should we get up to while we're in New York??

🎃 Limited Edition WPA Poster! 🎃
October’s “Bright Blue Weather” - A good time to read!
Originally published between 1936 and 1940

~~

Originally silkscreen printed, this is a recreation of a gorgeous poster commissioned by the Works Progress Administration’s Statewide Library Project (Illinois), printed with a risograph duplicator in Paprika, Black, & Blue by Secret Room Press.

✨Print is a limited edition of 50 copies, debuting at GamJam this Saturday! ✨

$5 from every sale of this print will be donated to Unite Against Book Bans (501c3 nonprofit), an initiative of the American Library Association to disseminate awareness, toolkits, and other resources to empower readers to stand together in the fight against censorship. 📚

~~

Artist is credited as Albert M. Bender, who seemed to primarily be a leading patron of the arts as one of Diego Rivera’s first American patrons and an early supporter of Ansel Adams, among many others. He looks to have made a handful of gorgeous WPA-related posters of his own but we couldn’t find more information on his own art because so much of the literature about him is about his legacy as a supporter of the arts! taken in Secret Room by @ciellecharron

It’s my birthday month and I’m celebrating with a very special and close-to-my-heart show @secretroompdx !

My amazing grandmother, Grace Henson, is a life-long artist who has been a huge inspiration for me throughout my life. I was lucky enough to grow up surrounded by her art, in the glow of her unending creative energy. When she was around my age, she painted some pieces that would decades later get traded around throughout my family. We bartered which of these paintings we’d get to display in our homes, who would have the opportunity to hang these 50s/60s pieces over the mantel or in the dining room or bedroom.

These three paintings are some of my favorite pieces my grandmother ever made, and I’ve taken this opportunity to recreate them in my own favorite medium: RISO!

You can come see the original paintings along with my risograph interpretations, now through September 13th.

Thank you for everything, Grandma Grace! 💕 taken in Secret Room by @ciellecharron

🌀 WE’RE OPENING A SHOP 🌀
The rumors are true! We’re opening a shop & art gallery at 3225 SE Division Street in Portland, Oregon… on March 15th! It’s called Secret Room (@secretroompdx) The shop will feature a rotating RISO art gallery alongside a curated selection of books, creative tools, notebooks, handmade toys, cassettes, vinyl, VHS, and more. And we’ll be hosting events and collaborative popups, of course!
😮‍💨
We’re taking over the lease at 32nd & SE Division from our friends at Little Otsu (@littleotsu). They’re moving onto new things and shifting their shop entirely online (we’ll be a local pickup location for them) and they offered us the opportunity to take over their lease. Back in 2020, Cielle rebranded Little Otsu and Secret Room Press was just putting out its first books… we would have never guessed we’d be kicking off 2024 like this!
😵‍💫
Wow! It feels great to finally share this news — we’ve been talking about this for a while, even in the middle of our Lloyd Center pop-up shop this past holiday season. More than anything, we were blown away by the community support for our project; we met so many people and had such a good time that we couldn’t imagine *not* taking our RISO studio/shop/gallery full-time. So excited for y’all to see what we’re cooking up!

💛 art by Ross Jackson (@rorsjarckson) 💛

What kind of stuff will we have?

✸ A rotating RISO art gallery printed in house by Secret Room Press
✸ Books & zines from risograph publishers worldwide
✸ Cartooning supplies, creative tools, notebooks, and greeting cards
✸ VHS + Cassettes + Vinyl from independent labels & producers
✸ Comics readings, movie screenings, & other weirdo events
~
Secret Room opens March 15th, 2024 with a party centered around Creature Comforts: A RISO art show ← our kickoff art show with 14 artists on the new gallery wall! More announcements about this to come!
~
🎉🎉 The shop will be open Wed-Sunday 12:00-7:00p. 🎉🎉
