Congratulations to award-winning author and passionate conservationist Tim Winton and watercolourist Cindy Lane, whose book ‘Ningaloo: Australia’s Wild Wonder’ has won the 2026 Environment Award for Children’s Literature, in the non-fiction category. 📚🎉

This beautiful book invites young readers to dive into one of the last great wild regions on earth, the north of Western Australia, where the desert meets the sea. From enormous whale sharks to minuscule Cape Range millipedes, grown ups and little ones alike will be mesmerised by splendid nature!
Judge Linden Ashcroft says of Ningaloo, “I really liked the framing of Ningaloo as a place of multiple ecosystems. Many people just think of the reef, but of course there is so much more. The illustrations are stunning and accurate, and I can see this book being a vital companion for any family trip to the area.

Part 2 of The Great Ink Spill, and this was the happiest ending! I used my Hobonichi journal /planner to sop up the ink puddle for a background. Kelp Forest is the name of this @robertostersignature ink, so a sea creature was perfect addition. Painted with @danielsmithartistsmaterials watercolours

Well. Yesterday's Great Ink Spill has a happy ending. Spilled a green ocean over my desk, almost the whole bottle of my fave Kelp Forest @robertostersignature ink. I was able to pipette 3/4 back into the bottle, but what to do with the remaining puddle? Make backgrounds for new paintings of course! This is the first of 2 vids, showing what to do if there's spillage in your life!

As part of Book Week, the Year 4 and 5 students visited Dordaak Kepup Library to participate in an engaging incursion with illustrator @cindylaneart .

Cindy shared how she creates her own paints using rocks and seawater collected from the local environment. She demonstrated several painting techniques that she uses to create the beautiful watercolour illustrations featured in children’s books. Students were fascinated to learn about her creative process and the connection between nature and art.

Following the demonstration, students had the opportunity to apply their new knowledge by painting their own animal artworks. It was a wonderful experience, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session while learning a great deal about illustration, watercolours, and artistic expression. #LandsdaleChristianSchool #CindyLane #BookWeek2026 #art taken in City of Wanneroo by @cindylaneart
