As part of Book Week, the Year 4 and 5 students visited Dordaak Kepup Library to participate in an engaging incursion with illustrator @cindylaneart .

Cindy shared how she creates her own paints using rocks and seawater collected from the local environment. She demonstrated several painting techniques that she uses to create the beautiful watercolour illustrations featured in children’s books. Students were fascinated to learn about her creative process and the connection between nature and art.

Following the demonstration, students had the opportunity to apply their new knowledge by painting their own animal artworks. It was a wonderful experience, and everyone thoroughly enjoyed the session while learning a great deal about illustration, watercolours, and artistic expression. #LandsdaleChristianSchool #CindyLane #BookWeek2026 #art

Book Week 2026 in Art - Year 3/4 This magnificent book had the kiddos enthralled. Every page was met with “oohs and aahs” and so many questions and wonderings. Our artwork was inspired by images of the reef and the animals that live there. Also discovered, being a novice Art teacher, that normal tissue paper doesn’t bleed so this lesson was a big learning and pivot moment!! 😳🫣 Thank you @tim_winton_69 @cindylaneart and @fremantlepress for this stunning book and @cbcaustralia for choosing it on the Eve Pownall shortlist.

A visit to the beautiful Mornington Peninsula wouldn’t be complete without popping into one of its wonderful independent bookshops. 📚😍

Today, I dropped into the fantastic @petersens_bookstore in Hastings, chatted with the lovely Chantelle and signed copies of Our Beautiful World and The Great Dawn Choir. 🌍🎶 🦜

On a rainy Melbourne day, nothing beats a cosy bookshop and a warm welcome. ☔📖🧡

“There’s nothing to do in Perth over school holidays”

I hear this so often. Hopefully this little selection of a few things we got up to over the holidays helps change your mind. We kept things simple but did something special / fun every day. It was exactly what we needed and although I’m looking forward to actually getting some decent work done again, I will miss these days spent with both boys at home as it’s down to the 2yo and me once again! ☀️

Here’s my top tips for making the most of holidays at home:
1. Check what’s on at your local library. We attended so many free events (including the workshop with @cindylaneart and of course our wonderful Teddy Sleepover event @renaehaywardauthor and I held at Subiaco library) 📚🧸
2. Memberships: we have a Scitech membership and Zoo pass. Perfect to request as birthday gifts from grandparents. Endless entertainment options and they usually have some extra events / shows on over the holidays. When you don’t feel you have to do “everything” it allows you to slow down to the kids’ pace and make the most of each visit without rushing.
3. Look out for live shows. An alternative to the cinema, but a far more special experience. By far, our favourite event of the School holidays was attending @barkinggeckoarts performance of Stellarphant by @jamesfoleybooks. Not only was it likely cheaper than a cinema ticket, it brought the book to life in a whole new way. My 2yo has now started to request “Moon effalent” every night. 🐘🚀
4. Remember to keep it simple! Days at home, movie nights, craft, treasure hunts, forts, walks to the park are all what make childhood so special. You don’t have to spend a lot of money to make amazing memories!
But of course, a good book or two does help 😉📚
