Crazy how you can be doubting yourself one minute and getting recognized the next 😭

About three days before I received this email in August, I was honestly questioning my place in this field. Even though I knew I was doing well, I couldn’t help second-guessing myself (imposter syndrome is truly the bane of my existence smfh😭).Then this came through as the perfect reminder that I’m on the right path.

Since January, I’ve had the privilege of helping dozens of clients plan incredible getaways, from honeymoons to group trips and even booking clients from the States🇺🇸! It still surprises me how much growth has happened with so little promotion and balancing it all while I was in school. It’s been such an insightful journey and I’m grateful to be pushing through, learning, and growing along the way.

Thank you to everyone who has inquired or booked with me since I started putting myself out here. I really appreciate it, especially being a newer agent ❤️

Why would Mayor Chow know my name?
As part of my MSW program, we were required to complete a six-month placement and I was blessed with an opportunity to work in the Mayor of Toronto’s Office!
I’ve always envisioned myself doing work within the capacity of City Hall, but honestly, I’ll never stop shouting God’s plans are always bigger than our own!! Jeremiah 29:11

During my time in office, I worked as a Constituent Affairs Advisor, serving as the first point of contact for individuals reaching out to the Mayor by phone or email. I supported residents by connecting them with internal departments or providing solutions directly.
Having previously worked in the housing sector, I came in with deep awareness of Toronto’s housing challenges. Through programs like MURA, I saw firsthand how vital City funding is in preventing eviction and displacement. I had the chance to advise the Mayor and her team to visit tenants impacted by these initiatives and we did! Hearing tenants speak their truth and advocate for their communities was incredibly moving.

I accompanied the Mayor to random TTC station pop ups to speak with riders, TCHC & TSCH regional leaders’ conferences to collaborating with councillors, CEOs, and being apart of meetings weekly with the Mayor and her team is something I don’t take for granted. This experience deepened my understanding of how the City operates and the ways in which I can empower my own community to create the changes they wanna see.

As a social worker, advocacy and real change have always been at the core of my purpose. Governance, policy, and systems reform are where I know transformation truly happens. People don’t always associate social work with politics, but we are multifaceted professionals with insights that reach far beyond expectations. I’m grateful that Mayor Chow and her team recognized this as my colleagues and I were the first social work students the Mayors office has had in over ten years. Did I mention God’s timing?

A Masters Dump🎓🥺

5 years ago, I applied to this same program but I wasn’t accepted. A bit disappointed, but I knew it wasn’t the end… just a matter of time. I asked God to please allow me to complete my Master’s before I turn 30. Not only did He keep His promise, He added way more.
I remember praying to God bc I never thought I’d be one of those students blessed with a funding scholarship to complete a graduate degree,let alone a competitive one like York’s, with only 40 students accepted. But here I am. Little did I know He’d reward me with over $15,000 in scholarships.

A straight-A student in an advanced fast-track graduate program?Waking up in the morning and making my way to City Hall to work in the Mayor’s Office? Being asked to speak at the same conference I sat in last year unsure about my own research & to have my work nominated as one of the Best Research Papers among my brilliant colleagues, is beyond anything I could’ve imagined. Only God. A true testament of God’s powerful favour and grace.

As the first in my family to go to Uni, I feel so blessed and honoured, not just for myself, but as inspiration for my nieces, nephews, and anyone who’s ever doubted they could make it this far bc I surely did. Growing up in a hood like Regent, people often make assumptions about you before you even decide who you want to be. Many people see me and never think to associate me with Regent, but it’s a big part of who I am. For my program, we were required to write a 50 page research paper. I wrote a 77-page paper exploring housing, gentrification, and neoliberalism amongst racialized communities-centering displaced Regent Park residents like myself. I wanted to not only expose the challenges but celebrate the resilience and sense of community that raised us. I’m honoured to be able to do so
I truly can go on & on but I’ve said a lot already😭 I’m just so grateful for my beautiful Masters Journey.

Lord I’m truly amazed.

Last week, I was invited to be a mentor for @powertogirlsca Annual Mentorship Conference.

I remember being around the same age as many of the young girls at the conference. Growing up, I was fortunate to have mentors in my community who poured into me, encouraged me, and introduced me to opportunities and experiences beyond what I knew at the time. Looking back, I can see how much those moments shaped the person I am today.

Sometimes all it takes is one conversation, one opportunity, or one person who believes in you. I loved hearing the girls speak about their goals, dreams, and interests. I also appreciated the conversations with those who were still figuring things out and being able to remind them that they do not need to have everything figured out just yet🤍

Thank you to Power to Girls for creating spaces where young girls can feel seen, inspired, and empowered to become whoever they choose to be. 💜
