Inside the historic garden of Villa Medici, the decision to intervene in the Carré des Orangers – among the portions furthest from the entrance – is not accidental, but defines a precise statement of intent.
In a contemporary context saturated with stimuli, the need emerges to build a place for lingering, in which the condition of refuge does not coincide with escapism, but configures itself as a conscious practice of suspension and openness to interiority.
The orange grove thus reveals itself as a témenos – from the Greek verb meaning to cut, to separate – meaning a physically and symbolically distinct space, in which the garden ceases to be a simple place of transit during the Festival des Cabanes to become an environment of abstraction.
A constellation of vertical elements is inserted into the rhythmic distribution of the trees: micro-architectures between the scale of the object and that of habitation are placed between the trunks without interrupting their logic, but intensifying their perception.
Taking up the concept of hesychìa – quiet, stillness, silence – each element defines an interior, filters light, and reduces the field of vision.
The sequence of colored presences transforms the experience into a paced journey, in which the relationship between person, architecture, and nature becomes direct and measurable.
The project is based on an archetypal shape, traceable to the traditional icon of the house: a volume with a parallelepiped base surmounted by a pitched roof.
Starting from this matrix, the micro-architectures are articulated into three different modules, defined by constant dimensions in plan and differentiated exclusively in height.
This variation introduces a perceptual modulation that acts directly on the relationship between space and person: while maintaining a shared measure, each element generates a different condition of interiority and suggests to the visitor the possibility of assuming different postures, from standing to sitting. taken in Villa Medici - Villa Médicis by @circolo_a
