✨How do you choreograph something you cannot control? ✨

A leaf responds to its environment. A vibration travels through an instrument. A body senses another body moving nearby.

Different forms of life, intelligence and perception. Interconnected in ways we are only beginning to understand.

In Sensorial Symphonies, five dancers, live music, plant bio-data and scent come together in an exploration of symbiosis, transformation and the intricate relationships that sustain life.

Inspired by the intelligence of living systems, the choreography invites us to experience the world as a continuous exchange - where every movement, every presence, every encounter has the potential to affect another.

✨What does it mean to exist with others, rather than independently of them?✨

Dance: Manuela Hierl, Marla King, Marine Tournet, Aurore Mettray, Noa Nies
Music: Rachmaninov x Schumacher
Costumes&Set: Agnes Hamvas

Come closer to the world of *Sensorial Symphonies*.

Announcing our two pop-up performances at Aberdeen Art Gallery - Fusion Youth Dance Company and Killer Quines Acapella!

Diablo’s Lair by Macgregor Douglas and Fusion Youth Dance Company
2pm - Aberdeen Art Gallery Sculpture Court

Lost down a rabbit hole where direction makes no sense, Diablo’s Lair takes you through a shifting, maze-like search for a way out—where every move is calculated, and daily life starts to feel like a high-stakes game of chess. But what happens when the finish line just dumps you right back at the beginning? We spend our days grinding to reach the end, only to realize the exit was just the start of another loop.

Killer Quines
3.50pm - Aberdeen Art Gallery Sculpture Court

We are The Killer Quines! The University of Aberdeen’s award-winning all female and non-binary a cappella group! Last year we became the first Quines generation to make it to the ICCA (yes the competition from Pitch Perfect) UK finals!!! We are so excited to be back for another incredible year of fun with all of our Quines! <3 by @citymovesdance

One of the best parts of DanceLive is welcoming a lineup of world-class dancers into the studio for our Festival Artist Studio Classes, which are open-level and suited for dancers of all skill levels, and give you an opportunity to work with and learn from the phenomenal artists you'll see performing on the DanceLive stages all weekend long.

Malcolm Sutherland Festival Artist Class
Friday the 16th @ 10:30-12:00
The class focuses on finding the initiation point of movements to better understand body coordination. Through improvisational tasks combined with set exercises, we will build awareness of body and space, culminating in heightened movement sensitivity. The class style blends ideas drawn from Malcolm's 15 years of professional experience in the industry.

Çıplak Ayaklar Kumpanyası Festival Artist Class
Saturday the 17th @ 10:30 - 12:00
This improvisation class will be led by Mihran Tomasyan and Leyla Postalcıoğlu, accompanied by live music from Berke Özcan. They will share their personal interests in improvisation and invite participants, through structured improvisation, into a playful exploration of movement, rhythm, space, and the connections between sound and movement. In the final part of the class, they will also share a movement score from The Things We Carry, giving participants an opportunity to experience and explore material from their sharing at the opening night of DanceLive

White & Givan Festival Artist Class
Sunday the 18th @ 10:30 - 12:00
A contemporary company class, focusing on skeletal alignment, articulate placement, and core stability. Participants will move with fluidity, precision, power, and strength, developing a grounded understanding of the body’s physicality in performance.

Sharon Took-Zozaya Festival Artist Workshop
Monday the 19th @ 14:15-15:15 in Aberdeen Art Gallery
Sharon leads this creative dance and physical theatre workshop, with themes from her latest project, Everything That’s Still Is Preparing to Move.

Class spaces are limited, so you will want to be sure to book ahead so you don't miss your chance to dance with these world-class artists. You can book through our website or on the Citymoves App! by @citymovesdance

DanceLive 2026 welcomes Elisabeth Schilling & Company back the festival to perform Sensorial Symphonies in Cowdray Hall on Sunday, 18 October @ 7pm as part of our special 20th Anniversary Festival!

In Sensorial Symphonies, Elisabeth asks, "What if we could feel the world as plants do? "

Sensorial Symphonies invites the audience into an immersive, multi-sensory journey, where plants are not mere decorative metaphors but active protagonists, taking centre stage with their elaborate, interconnected systems. The choreography honours the wisdom of plant life, its symbiotic relationships, resilience, and boundless adaptability, asking us to reconsider our place in a shared ecological web.

Set against the backdrop of Sergei Rachmaninov’s iconic Piano Concerto No. 2—reimagined and interwoven with a contemporary score by Pascal Schumacher and the organic sounds of The Plant Philharmonic—this creation is as ambitious in scope as it is intricate in execution.

This is a perfect piece to enjoy alongside Dudendance's Alien Aquatic at Bon Accord Baths, why not make a weekend of it?

Here are the details 👇

Venue: Cowdray Hall

When: Saturday, 18th Oct 19:00-20:00

Tickets available at the link in our bio
