Dancers Connected | 4 weeks together

Four extraordinary weeks in Aberdeen. Four wonderful dancers. So much shared learning, discovery and connection.

To Alex Mulcahy, Kim Francey, Laura Booth and Oran Longmuir — thank you for your generosity, courage, openness and commitment. For bringing your artistry, questions and lived knowledge into the studio, and for helping us explore what a more connected and sustainable future for dancers might look like.

These weeks have been about so much more than making dance. They’ve been about listening, questioning, challenging, caring and discovering what it means to work together.

Not every moment has been straightforward, but some of our most valuable learning has come through those moments. Meaningful change begins with trust, honesty, care and a willingness to keep learning together.

A heartfelt thank you to Colin Baird, Dr Anne Teräväinen-Goff and Bill Taylor for your invaluable knowledge, care, research and support.

To Hayley Durward and the wonderful Citymoves Dance Agency team, thank you for your generosity, partnership and for making us feel so welcome in Aberdeen.

And to Creative Scotland, thank you for funding Dancers Connected and giving us the opportunity to explore, question and develop new possibilities for dancers and their working lives.

Dancers Connected was never about having all the answers. It was about asking better questions, together.

We leave with enormous gratitude for everyone who has been part of this journey, and a renewed belief in the value of dancers’ lived knowledge in shaping their own futures.

Thank you for everything you’ve brought to these four weeks. We’re excited about what comes next.

Aberdeen Tour ✨

A huge thank you to everyone involved in our Aberdeen tour, and to all the schools who welcomed us and gave us the opportunity to share our work with their young people. 💜

It was a fantastic experience, bringing high-quality dance directly into school settings and creating opportunities for disabled young people to develop their skills as professional dancers and dance teachers.

Thank you to the Scottish Government’s Learning Disability Support Fund for making this project possible.

Dancers Connected | Beautiful work emerging!

Some beautiful moments in the studio as we move into our final week of Dancers Connected in Aberdeen.

Over these four weeks, we’ve really enjoyed getting to know Alex, Kim, Laura and Oran as artists, each bringing something unique and special to the process.

Through our exploration of Grace, we’ve shared ideas, asked questions, challenged ourselves and discovered new possibilities together.

It’s been wonderful watching the work grow, seeing connections develop and those unexpected moments of beauty that remind us why we love creating with others.

More than anything, this experience reminds us that the value of a creative process lies not only in what we make, but in what we learn about ourselves and one another along the way.

Four dancers. Four individual voices. So much possibility.

There is something truly magical about being in a space where dancers can deeply connect, share, learn, and feel completely at one. Over the years, my love for dance has offered me this beautiful opportunity across so many different creative landscapes.
During my recent visit, one integral conversation shifted everything for me. I found myself in a room filled with dancers and makers who are still actively making, performing, and thriving in their late 40s, 50s, and early 70s. Having a blether at the end of class with these incredible artists—who are absolute masters at the top of their game—reminded me that age is nothing but a number. Hearing their determination to keep going, keep creating, and keep performing gave me so much hope.
Coming out of retirement at 38 years old, I realise I am just a “spring chicken” in this beautiful timeline! Seeing the longevity of these peers proves that the passion for movement never has to end.
To anyone who needs to hear it: your voice matters, your body belongs, and your creative journey is uniquely yours.
See you on the stage! 🩰💫🎭

Inspired by Paula Rego’s Angel, Grace is an intimate exploration of strength and vulnerability, protection and surrender, and the quiet power of human connection.

Through movement, stillness and gesture, accompanied by the evocative live sound of Tiago Cerqueira, we invite audiences into a world where tenderness and resilience exist side by side.

One performance. One evening. Don’t miss it.
