Be part of the process of Building Better Connection by giving us your feedback on the upcoming Burlington Street Bridge project during a workshop series.

The City’s Leaf Vacuum starts Monday, Oct. 26, 2026, in Zones 7 and 1. After they are completed, the vacuum will move to the next zones in numerical order. This will repeat as many times as possible until the planned program end date of Nov. 25, 2026. The program may run shorter or longer due to weather.

For daily updates on where the leaf vacuum is, visit icgov.org/leafvacuum, follow the City on Nextdoor, or subscribe to daily email updates at www.icgov.org/subscribe. A weekly preview will be posted on our Facebook page.

Of course, you don’t need to wait for the leaf vacuum to get rid of leaves. You can place them in your yellow-lid compost carts, or even mulch them into your lawn with your mower! City employees are shown using the leaf vacuum during fall. by @cityofiowacity

A heads up to all of our @icfarmersmarket fans: the parking lot for Robert A. Lee Recreation Center will have limited parking on Saturday, Oct. 17, 2026, due to staging for the Run for the Schools fundraiser race.

We suggest walking, jogging, carpooling, or biking to get to the market this weekend. Bicyclists can use the World of Bikes bike valet as well! If you do drive, there’s room in the Chauncey Swan Ramp, or use Tower Place Parking Ramp to avoid congestion! Even on Farmers Market mornings, there’s always space to park in the ramps. by @cityofiowacity

🎃The Halloween Carnival is creeping up! Experience a hauntingly fun time with ghostly carnival games, inflatables, seasonal crafts, magical STEAM activities, special visitors, all perfect for kids! Halloween costumes are encouraged, but not required! All children must be accompanied by an adult.

Hosted by our Parks and Recreation Department, the Carnival is from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, 2026, at Robert A. Lee Recreation Center. It's free for the whole family! by @cityofiowacity

What an incredible Indigenous Peoples Day celebration! We are so grateful to everyone who came out, showed up, and celebrated with us.

A heartfelt thank you to the speakers and dancers:

- Eagle Feather Singers and Dancers -- your demonstrations filled the day with song, dance, and beauty alongside the beat of the drum
- Quite Soules -- for sharing your incredible words with us
- Egan Greenwalt from the University of Iowa Native American Student Association for representing the next generation of Indigenous leaders
- Our own Representation Director at Great Plains Action Society, Jessica Engelking, for hosting.

And a very special thank you to Iowa City Parks and Recreation — Malory Smysor and crew — for making this event possible and welcoming our community so warmly. You really showed up with the bounce houses, kids activities and sensory tent.

Shout out to all the amazing organizations that tabled! IC Parks and Recreation, IC Human Rights and Equity Dept, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, League of women Voters, Ul Office of the State Archaeology, CommUnity, Quiet Soul, UI NASA, and lowa City Mutual Aid! You are making a difference!
