The way community members elect Council Members is changing this year and we will be doing more to get the word out in the coming months.

🗳️ Here's what's not changing:
· Residents get to elect community members to serve on the City Council, which will continue to make decisions for the whole community. The Council will still be made up of one elected mayor and four elected Council Members.
· All registered voters get to continue voting in every Council Member and Mayoral election every two years.
· All registered voters get to continue selecting the candidate who best represents them from across the city.

📣 Here's what's changing: Instead of voting for up to two Council Member candidates, voters select one starting in November 2026.

It's called Citywide Single Vote. We didn't ask for this change, but it's approved by the City Council as the best compromise for our community. It's simple and familiar: VOTE FOR ONE Council Member candidate from across the city, and the TOP TWO WIN.

While many community members are already voting this way, we want to make sure you understand WHY this changed and HOW to make your vote count.

ℹ️ Here's how to stay informed and learn more:
1. Visit and bookmark or save slocity.org/SingleVote.
2. Attend an upcoming community meeting (the first information session is virtual on March 25, see the website for details)
3. Subscribe to Get our Election Newsletter Monthly
4. Invite us to Your Neighborhood or Next Meeting by @cityofslo

We envision a San Luis Obispo that is welcoming, inclusive, and safe.

Our city values diversity, promotes equity and belonging, actively denounces systemic racism, and believes that both in value and practice San Luis Obispo can be a place where all community members - regardless of race, ethnicity, gender identity, sexuality, religion, or ability - are represented, respected, valued, and heard.

You're invited! We want your input to determine what actions we should be taking in the next four years to make SLO a carbon neutral community!

Help us build on what's working, identify new opportunities, and address emerging challenges. Community members like you have been actively shaping the 2027 Climate Action Plan update this summer.

This is the FINAL community workshop and your last opportunity to provide input before we propose changes to the City Council in the spring.

- Wednesday, November 4th, 5:30 - 7:30 pm
- Library Community Room, 995 Palm Street

You don't need to be a climate expert to participate. You just need to be an expert in your own life here in SLO. Whether you're a resident, student, business owner, commuter, parent, or nonprofit leader, we want your input!

If you can't make it, please take the community survey to provide input.
