The Cal Tri Duathlon was the second toughest sprint duathlon course I’ve ever raced. (3.2 mile run 16 mile bike 2nd 3.2 mile run) The course markings weren’t very clear, and I ended up running nearly an extra mile after taking a wrong turn along with a few other competitors. Fortunately, I was able to make up the lost time on the bike and catch the athletes who had passed me on the first run,

Overall, it was an incredibly fun event. Both the run and bike courses featured significant elevation, making it a true test of endurance. By the time I started the second run, the sun was absolutely brutal, adding another layer of challenge.

Despite all of that, I crossed the finish line as the overall winner, taking 1st place across all age groups. A tough course, a few unexpected obstacles, and a great reminder that perseverance pays off! by @clacksic

Pretty good triathlon! Another fun sprint triathlon. While I didn’t make the podium, I finished 5th out of 30 athletes in my age group, and 68th of 660 athletes!

Looking back, my transitions from the swim to the bike and from the bike to the run were slower than usual. I missed 3rd and 4th place by less than a minute, and my combined transition times were nearly three minutes slower than theirs.

Lesson learned: transitions matter. It’s free time that has nothing to do with fitness or performance, and there’s plenty of room for improvement there.

Still, I had an absolute blast out there and was proud to represent. On to the next one!! 💪🏿💪🏿🏊🏿‍♀️🏊🏿‍♀️🚴🏿‍♂️🚴🏿‍♂️🏃🏿‍♂️🏃🏿‍♂️ taken in Reston, VA by @clacksic

This is my second year participating in the Senior Olympics Cycling Time Trial event. Racing in the 55–59 age group, I earned 2nd place in the state of Maryland.

I have a few friends who laugh at the name “Senior Olympics” and don’t want to compete because it sounds like it’s for old people. The funny thing is, if you’re over 50, you qualify! 😂

All jokes aside, I feel fortunate to still be able to participate in events like these. Being healthy and active at 58 years old is truly a blessing, and I never take that for granted.

I’m also happy to report that I improved my performance from last year. On a challenging 6.2-mile course with approximately 300 feet of elevation gain, I averaged 22 mph.

The medals are nice, but the real victory is being healthy enough to keep showing up, competing, and enjoying the journey. taken in Davidsonville by @clacksic

I was originally registered for the Salute to the Military triathlon, but with the water temperature below 50°F and rain falling steadily, I made an executive decision to skip the swim and switch to the duathlon at the last minute.

The decision paid off—I ended up winning 1st Place Overall! Even with the rain, it was a great day of racing and a lot of fun. Surprisingly, I recorded my fastest bike split ever on this course despite the wet conditions. And as always, I enjoyed the run—there’s something refreshing about running in the rain.

A great reminder that sometimes adapting to the conditions is part of the competition. Overall, it was a fantastic day and I’m grateful for the experience. #exercise #duathlon #clacksicfitness #noexcuses #workout taken in Warrenton, Virginia by @clacksic

My first road cycling race was a success! 🚴‍♂️💨 GFNY Cambridge, Maryland
This was the fastest 92 miles I’ve ever ridden nonstop — averaging 25.2 mph while staying with the lead group the entire way.

Normally, I make one or two stops during a century ride, but in a race, that’s not an option if you want a shot at the podium. I missed the podium by just 19 seconds, finishing 7th out of 40 riders in my age group. I was definitely excited about that for my first race.

I wasn’t sure if I could go 92 miles straight through, but after talking with Lans Fofana who raced last year, I changed up my fueling strategy. Layla Doman who also competed gave a really great tip right before the race on where to put my gels which helped greatly. It's good to have experienced friends who ride. I relied on gels and protein drinks instead of my usual food stops, and it worked perfectly — I felt strong the entire way and could’ve easily gone more miles.

Already looking forward to doing more races like this next year! 💪🏾💪🏾🔥🔥🚴🏿‍♂️

Four centuries in 30 days!
This is the second time I’ve completed four century rides (100 miles each) within a 30-day span. It might sound like a lot, but I’ve got friends who knock out four centuries in a single week—it’s all perspective. Out of these four, I clocked my second-fastest century ever: 4 hours and 36 minutes, averaging 22.1 mph.

The RVA Triathlon in Richmond, Virginia was an incredible experience—definitely one of my favorite events to race. The organization was top-notch, and I was thrilled to take second place in the 55–59 age group. I felt solid across all three disciplines, though there’s still room to improve. The course featured a 300-yard swim, a 12-mile bike ride, and a 3.2-mile run to the finish. taken in Richmond, Virginia by @clacksic

The Church Creek Team Time Trial is always a tough race, with both the wind and the distance making it a real challenge. This year we were fortunate not to face heavy winds, but it still took a steady, nonstop effort to cover 25 miles at 22.4 mph. Carole and I actually decided to team up less than five days before the race. While we’ve ridden together on plenty of group rides, this was our first time tackling a time trial as a duo—which is a completely different experience. In the end, we were thrilled to pull off a first-place finish. #exercise #losing-weight #no-excuses #bike #cycling #rideonbike #personaltrainer #strengthandconditioning #fitness #fit #fitnessmotivation #cardio #fitnessaddict taken in Cambridge, Maryland by @clacksic

Columbia, Maryland Triathlon was a lot of fun. I came in second place in my age group 55-59. First I swam 400 yards, then I biked for 10 miles and finally I ran 3 miles to complete the race. I was totally exhausted after this race! #exercise #losing-weight #no-excuses #bike #cycling #rideonbike #personaltrainer #strengthandconditioning #fitness #fit #fitnessmotivation #cardio #fitnessaddict #clacksicfit #calorieburn #50andfit #over40andfit #over50andfit #bikersofinstagram #bikers #roadbike #nevergiveup #exercise #cyclinglife #cyclingphotos #phasecycling #triathlon taken in Columbia, Maryland by @clacksic
