It’s book launch day!šŸš€

So excited that my first book, What They Don’t Teach You About Money, is released by @penguinukbooks @eburybooks today!

If you need a friendly voice to guide you through your finances, this book (and the audio book which I recorded myself) is for you!

I’ll be talking about the book and the Budget today on @lbc and Sky news and BBC Woman’s Hour plus you can hear me talking about childcare on the FT’s News Briefing podcast. Keep up with my stories today to see what I get up to 😜

Plus, a few tickets to tonight’s launch event in Hackney with @bobby_seagull are still available - check the link in my bio!

Personal finance is absolutely at the top of the news agenda, which is why it’s so crucial we all understand how political measures impact us. My column ā€œThere’s no such thing as free childcareā€ is on the FRONT PAGE of the Financial Times today šŸ™Œ thanks to Joeli Brearley at @pregnant_then_screwed for her comments in this, and indeed for getting childcare firmly up the political agenda in the first place!

Thank you again to all of the people who helped me write this book. I could not have done this without you! I’ll be posting lots over the coming weeks revealing more about the seven powerful habits that can help you manage your money more effectively, including exploring the emotional dimension which is so crucial.

šŸ“• I just hope you all love it!

As for today… I’ve survived being interviewed by Nick Ferrari, so BRING IT ON! šŸš€

🚨 Fake Profile Alert, this is NOT me🚨

Sorry to say I have yet another imposter online pretending to be me!

I’ve had reports from genuine followers (thank you, team) in the past hour saying they’ve all been sent friend requests from this account claiming to be me and offering to ā€œshare financial knowledgeā€.

Please be assured - this is NOT me. The ONLY place I share my ā€œknowledgeā€ on Instagram is through this account @claerb and the official @financialtimes account.

I will NEVER give you unsolicited investment advice or share tips and I’ll NEVER tell you to invest in crypto or ask for your personal details or - god forbid - for money.

I have reported the fake account to @meta and so have the followers who contacted me, but I doubt they will do much anytime soon - the last time this happened it was at the weekend. So I am posting here to alert you and anyone checking on my page to see if this imposter is really me.

✨ Magical money vibes to everyone who has sent a message alerting me to this ✨

Meanwhile, my husband says: ā€œIf there is another person pretending to be you, can they come round here and make me my dinner?ā€

He has been given a Care Bear Stare 🐻

Please be vigilant šŸ™ by @claerb

The tax-free personal allowance starts to be withdrawn once earnings hit £100,000 and individuals may pay more in taxes and student loan repayments than they take home. With tax thresholds frozen until 2031, an estimated 500,000 additional workers are expected to be affected by this 'tax trap', writes FT consumer editor @claerb. There is speculation that this topic may become more prominent on the political agenda now that MPs' salaries have reached £98,599.

Calling all freelancers!

I’d love to know what you wish you had known from a financial POV before you embarked on your freelance life.

The tough jobs market and worrying trend of employers ordering staff back to the office means becoming a freelance consultant is an increasingly popular career option, especially for those in midlife. But it is not without challenges!

Caveat - I think that shortsighted policies denying workers flexibility are damaging women’s career prospects especially, and doing much more harm than good to the UK economy. I will continue to bang the drum on this.

But if you have chosen a more entrepreneurial path, thinking about the financial side of your freelance life is a vital ingredient for success.

From keeping personal and business finances separate to navigating Making Tax Digital, working out the right tax structure and managing a lumpy income without the safety net of sick pay - what do YOU wish you had known that others considering this path would really value? (And it doesn’t have to be deadly serious - it could be the best places to work from for free, if you’re willing to share this priceless info!)

I’ve been speaking to Nicole @thelondonaccountant_ about this for a piece in the @financialtimes and I’d love to hear from you all about this.

āœļø Please comment or DM me - my usual rules, I won’t use your name in the article without asking permission.

🚨 I have another faker! 🚨

Thank you to everyone who has alerted me to this fake account which is asking all of my existing followers to join up to ā€œdiscuss economicsā€

This is not me
This account @claerb is my only account
The last thing I want to do on a Sunday morning is discuss economics!
I fear this ā€œchatā€ will quickly descend into punting crypto or unwise investments - I cannot stress enough, I have nothing to do with this account

I’ve reported it by clicking on the profile and selecting ā€œreport accountā€ and alerted the FT press office

If you have five seconds to report it, that will really help, it would be awful if anyone lost money because of this.

Please be vigilant!

Thank you by @claerb

Definition of a cop out

There’s still nearly seven weeks until the UK Budget on 28th October. If you share my belief that millions of graduates repaying Plan 2 loans have been dealt an injustice, then please write to your MP, shout about it on social media and make your voices heard.

We are relying on young people to power the UK’s economic future. Yes, we need to help the Neets too. But the two are not mutually exclusive. To dismiss the Treasury Select Committee’s report like this, which, let us not forget received more submissions from people affected than ANY OTHER report they had ever compiled, is reading the mood of the country wrong.

It’s not just students and graduates who think this is wrong, it’s parents and employers too - not to mention economists and the mighty @martinlewismse who has put out a separate response on his own page.

Kudos to Ollie Gardner from @rethinkrepayment who is on the latest episode of my Money Clinic podcast for the FT talking about the legacy of loan debt and what it’s doing to the UK economy. Just search for Money Clinic wherever you get your podcasts.
