FREAK 022: @cma124 Born & raised under the Chicago skyline, the windy city shaped not only the athlete in Claire but also the person she is today… “Setting and achieving goals makes me feel like I’m continuously evolving into a better version of myself.” When we sat down with her earlier this month we spoke about her bike accident, where she told us, “it was in the hospital, before I even introduced myself to the doctor, when i asked if i could still run..” - When you meet Claire, it’s easy to see how much she embodies the spirit of the city; dealing with cold winters has clearly made her even tougher. Unafraid of a fight and more than willing to push through the wind… We could not be more excited to welcome Claire to the crew!! We’re so stoked you’re here! 🤙🧡 by @claire.asmussen

“The marathon was the thing that kept my hope alive; it became this lighthouse in a storm, something to give me direction when everything else felt uncertain.“ In the middle of training for a 70.3 ironman, @cma124 was involved in a bicycle accident that sent her directly to the hospital. Fully aware the 70.3 was off the table, she had one question for her surgeon, “can i run?” - with a yes from the doc, claire set her focus to the @chimarathon - making her debut in the marathon in her hometown of chicago… with a cast on and all.. while in town for race weekend earlier this month, we spent some time with claire to learn more about her as an athlete and how that drives her as a human. by @claire.asmussen
@runtoohard / play too hard extra love to @notre @nikerunning @strava @oakleymeta @theroyalgrocer for making marathon week so special ✨ same time next year? by @claire.asmussen
Nothing about a marathon goes to plan. For me, that meant shattering my arm 10 weeks out, two broken bones, one surgery, a month off running, and some of the hardest days I’ve been through. Honestly I doubted I’d even make it to the start line, let alone the finish. To those who believed in me, who promised I’d come back stronger (even when I didn’t understand what that meant), who texted, called, kept my spirit alive and have been cheering for me since day 1, I can’t thank you enough. I’ve never run a race with so much gratitude and I am 100% certain that’s how my goal was met. Mental toughness might start with yourself, but I’ve learned that it’s built by friends, family and a city that never lets you stop believing. THANK YOU CHICAGO ❤️‍🔥💋 ⏱️ 3:29:43 📸 @carlnard (1, 3) @gazpho (2) by @claire.asmussen
