A year ago today my life got flipped upside down when my dad unexpectedly had a heart attack and passed away. I’ve always had a bit of a complicated relationship with my dad but that winter break something clicked it felt like we were on the ups. A winter storm delayed all flights and I had to drive back to college the same day my flight landed and I had no time to see him. Another winter storm hit Valentine’s weekend and he told we he’d always be there and not to come home and stay safe, a week later he died. My childhood dog that I bought and raised died the next day. I lost an entire piece of my life in one weekend. The past year I have done everything in my power to deny and avoid the truth, I feared that if i acknowledged everything I would unravel at the seams and I wasn’t sure I’d ever be able to come back. A year later now Ive had to come to terms with my reality, I can’t bring anyone back, there is no changing life. I just have to do better for the next day. So on hard days (like today) I get Starbucks like my dad used to do every time he dropped me off at school. I read and watch stories full of dragons, magic, drama and fantasy like we did together. I indulge in peanuts comics and snoopy themes. I practice training animals and watch dog shows that he would always put on for me. I’m training a rat (named peanut) in college right now and I just know he would think it is so cool. I miss my dad and I miss max so today is in honor of them. <3 Remember to be kind to those around you and love everyone you can. by @claisab23
