A titling typeface revisiting the didone through a generous lens, with an incisive, robust presence.

Developed from a fragmented model from the 1920s by G. Peignot & Fils, the design reconsiders its original logic through a broader set of references, shifting it into a more contemporary register.

Rooted in editorial traditions yet shaped by later influences, it brings a distinct sense of rhythm, emphasis and voice on the page.

[EB010]

Meet EB Venezia, by Alan Madić and Clara Dousson, a typeface inspired by the work produced for Olivetti and their typewriters. Designed in 1976 for the TES 501 electronic typewriter, a typeface named “Venezia” served as the basis for Madić and Dousson’s new typeface.

After an initial version, called “Extra” and designed whilst they were students, Madić and Dousson developed the design further into these smooth, rounded shapes, contrasting with the rigidity of typefaces for typewriters. They have developed a unique system of units allowing the typeface to have proportional spacing whilst remaining constrained within a precise grid, giving EB Venezia a pleasant texture for continuous reading.

The availability of several weights, from light to bold, makes it suitable for use across a wide range of media, from signage and book design to logos.

The typeface is still in development and will have an extended character set, fitting Électro-bibliothèque’s standard. Italics are also in production and will be ready for the final release, scheduled for the end of 2026.

Display type specimen showcasing the typefaces Marte, Kristbergs, Strazza, and Doppel, currently in progress.
Marte is a sturdy and vibrant typeface, inspired by 19th-century American wood type antiques.
Kristbergs is a digital reinterpretation of a pointed pen calligraphy model from 1939, originally from Riga, Latvia, found in an instructional manual.
Strazza revisits the Monch Antiqua in its widest style, originally drawn in 1914 by Anton Durstmüller and published by the Poppelbaum foundry in Vienna. It keeps the main features of the original design, while giving this high-contrast slab serif a more modern feel. Doppel is inspired by several condensed German antique typefaces from the 19th century.

À l’occasion de la biennale de l’édition Exemplaire 2024, organisée par l’ @esad_valence, nous nous sommes occupées du design éditorial, de la direction artistique et de la photographie de l’ouvrage cat.exp.

Cat.exp est un recueil de conversations menés avec plusieurs designers, de textes et d’images autour du catalogue d’exposition, qui s’est construit collectivement sur deux années.

Pour une compréhension plus historique du catalogue d’exposition, des textes issus d’un travail de recherche sont publiés dans l’ouvrage. Ces textes, écrits @malou__mess__ et @lisometrique, abordent principalement la figure importante de Pontus Hultén, ainsi que le catalogue « Andy Warhol », publié en 1968.
