We are thrilled to finally announce that KIND MOTHER will screen at Oscar-qualifying @cinequestorg ✨The festival runs March 11-23 in San Jose, California, and we screen on Sunday, March 16th at 2:05 pm, preceding the feature film BURT. CALIFORNIA! It’s primary time! Time to #dancefordemocracy 💃 There are big races like governor, and in LA we’re voting on mayor, too! But please don’t ignore those other “down-ballot” races like judges - those are as, if not more, important than the biggies because judges (for example) determine the day to day functioning of our system, they are literally interpreting the law, and they are sometimes the only gatekeepers keepin’ some people with big power in check when things are very wonky (like now). Politics may seem like a mess right now, but taking a few minutes to research which judges we should vote for is a small thing you can do that you have control over, and is also SUPER DUPER IMPORTANT! And lucky for you, there are guides online put together by people who have done the deep dive research for you! I will link one in my story! Anyways, don’t leave those judge races blank, and get those completed ballots to a drop-off box… or vote in person tomorrow! Tag me in your voting dances! It is the day of birth of @golfpanther ❤️ (His name is actually Geoff, but he also answers to Golf, ironically like the one sport he doesn’t play.) This human contains multitudes. No one loves popcorn more than him. He’s so, so good at mental math. All cats adore him, which is a very, very good sign. I’ve never met someone with less writers’ block. He can do spot-on impersonations of kitties. He has endless ideas. He’s basically the mayor of Los Angeles. He looks amazing in aviator sunglasses. He looks like a Greek god every day. He adores trains. He can throw a baseball at 92 MPH. His magical hair allows him to shapeshift. His singing voice is astonishing. He can play like 47 instruments. He’s learned to point out every dog we see, as a sign of his love for me, I suspect (and his growing love for dogs). This year he casually built a desk by hand. He loves shopping, which is a gift that I thank the universe for every day. He took the middle seat on our flight to Spain so I could have the window. When we heard about an injured kitten on death’s door who needed an emergency foster, without hesitating, Geoff said, “let’s do it.” I’ve never loved him more. The kitten is our (second) cat now. (Zelda is our first cat, and the longest, truest love of Geoff’s life, and I respect that 100% and yes, Zelda did threaten that if I didn’t mention this she would throw up on my pillow). Early this year I saw an audition notice for a short film called Paper Boy. It caught my eye because they were looking for dancers/movers to portray giant paper creatures (say no more) and the story sounded moving - a mother/son story with a lot of pain and gravity to it. I was about to start the festival circuit with my own film that coincidently explored some of the same themes. Paper Boy was a Thesis film for the @americanfilminstitute and I adore doing student films. Anyway, everything kind of felt right about it. I made a strange, improvised audition tape (excerpt in the second slide) and two weeks later, I was on set, thanks to @kristii_lynnn casting! (Oh, and between those two things, LA burned and the sky was dark and it was hard to breathe the air. This year, man.) It ended up being one of my favorite on-set experiences that I’ve ever had. The director, @sauliusbaradinskas was/is incredible. Very collaborative and calm and possessing a clear and original vision. The production design of the set by @oyster_liao was made entirely of paper, and was truly unbelievable. The costumes were fabricated to perfection by @evanhtml 👹 All these elements were pulled together by producer @willow_rose_studios 🤩 My fellow cast members were awesome and so talented @kit_dezolt @derekdemko @_jettwilder 🤓 our movement director @marygracemcnally was/is a dream 💭 @valbetancurmua did fantastic makeup 💄 I wish I could go on and tag everyone. I believe there were over two hundred people working on the project, and everyone I met was a gem. I’ve never gotten to play a paper monster before, so that was a career first! When we wrapped I wished it were a feature instead of a short. Paper Boy premieres at the prestigious AFI Fest tomorrow, and I’m so excited for it! I haven’t seen the film yet, so it’ll be a total surprise for me. I feel really lucky to have been involved with such a creative project that has so much heart. Today marks 1 year that we’ve had our little foster - well, foster fail - kitten 😻 On October 15th, 2024, Sally was found alone in a construction site in Vernon with a badly broken/wounded leg, what appeared to be a missing eye, and lots of fleas. She was around 3-4 weeks old. We are so grateful to the construction worker who picked her up and to @losfelizanimalrescue for facilitating her rescue and supporting her healing! Her first day was spent at the ER getting cleaned up, and putting her poor little leg into a cast. They also found out that her supposed-missing eye was just a bad infection. That night she came home to us, and by the next morning Geoff said, “I mean, we’re keeping her, right?” In her first few weeks she had to endure lots of antibiotics and eye drops and every-other-day visits to the vet to have her cast and bandages changed. We were told to limit her movement, and that once she was old enough, she’d need her leg fully amputated. But, she’s a little miracle kitty, and somehow managed to heal her own bone (previously broken in TWO spots!) and in January she got her cast completely off! Since then she has been a wild and crazy gal, jumping, running, and chasing her fish toy (her favorite)! Other favorite things include the sound of the treat bag being opened, Geoff, smelling potatoes (especially sweet potatoes 🤷‍♀️), and sitting on her perch to look out the window for birds. She is a happy, sassy rascal, and we love her so, so much. Her relationship with her much-older-sister Zelda (16) is still a work-in-progress, as seen in the last photo (Sally is oBsesSed with Zelda and Zelda is… slowly learning to appreciate the nutso kitten energy). If you are considering fostering or adopting an animal, do it. It will open your heart in ways you can’t imagine.
