POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
They called me olodo. The dunce. Last in my class, all through primary school. My dad once cried over my report card, not knowing what to do with me. Today I advise on national economic policy in Canada.

I tried to fit my story into a one minute reel. The in-betweens aren’t here.

Let me use the caption for what I didn’t want to leave out.

To my roommates in Moremi Hall, Unilag, who fed me on the days I was hungry. To the friends who housed me when I had nothing. I don’t know if any of this would have been possible without you.

And to my then boyfriend, now husband. A broke corper who shared his "alawee" with me anyway and took care of me at every step, long before the story made sense. You’re my hero for life. Words will never describe how much I love you @adekoluoladapo

If you’re in your own messy middle right now, we’d probably get along. Failure and loss can look permanent. They are not. Keep going, you’ll see the light soon 🤍

All glory to Jesus, my helper 🥹. He is the reason I keep surmounting every curve life throws.

How to get hired in 60 days without mass applying.

I applied to 100+ jobs and heard nothing for 18 months. What finally worked: I stopped mass applying, got known inside a few companies I wanted, and proved my value before a job even opened.

I broke the whole thing into steps you can copy: the resume format that gets past the ATS, the AI prompts to tailor it to any job, the LinkedIn message that actually gets replies, and a simple framework for the 5 interview questions everyone gets asked. Save it so it’s ready when your search starts.

‼️Comment RESUME for the ATS resume template.
‼️Comment INTERVIEW for the playbook: 30+ questions with word-for-word answers.

Job interview tip: turn the job description into a one-page cheat sheet.

I’ve passed more than 10 interviews and worked across five organizations in Canada. This is the prep I come back to almost every time.

Here’s what goes on my page:

1. The 5 to 7 things they’re hiring for. Top responsibilities, the skills, the tools they keep repeating.
2. Beside each one, one example from my own experience that proves I can do it. Not the full STAR answer. Just trigger words.
3. The results and numbers I don’t want to forget.
4. Three questions I want to ask them at the end.

Then I take that page into the interview with me. So when they ask a question, I’m not searching through years of experience for the right story. I’ve already matched my best examples to exactly what they said they need.

Want my cheat sheet? Comment SHEET and I’ll send it to you. It shows what’s always on mine, how to build yours, and the questions to ask at the end of the interview.

Save this for your next interview, and send it to a friend who has one coming up.

Being good at your job is the bare minimum. It will not get you promoted.

Hardworking people sit in the same role for years wondering what they are doing wrong. Usually it is this. They do the work, but the people who decide promotions have no idea how much they actually carry.

Promotions get decided in conversations you are not in. Your job is to make those conversations easy to have about you.

That is what these 10 rules do. Everything in here is something I actually did to move up three times in four years.

Got more rules to add? Tell me below. Save this for your next review.

Resume tips from a career coach: tailoring your resume shouldn’t take 5 hours.

It used to take me that long for one client. One job site gets 11,000 applications a minute and a recruiter spends about 7 seconds on your resume, so if it doesn’t match the job description, they move on.

Here’s how I tailor a resume now with Enhancv, the resume builder I recommend to my clients to land more interviews:

1. Upload your resume and see what needs fixing (26 things on this one)
2. Paste in the job description and get your job match score (61% to start)
3. See the missing keywords and tailor your resume in one click
4. Add your real impact, so it doesn’t read like generic AI
5. Prep for the interview and give your LinkedIn profile a makeover

That 61% match went up to 80%, and 5 hours became less than one.

Check @enhancv today. Comment RESUME and I’ll send you the link to try it out. Save this for your next job application.

The "tell me something not on your resume" question is not small talk. It is the final test. She is checking whether you can communicate who you are without your credentials.

Some people say:
❌ "I love hiking and reading."
❌ " I’m really into yoga. "
❌ " I love spending time with my family."

Don’t say any of these. They are forgettable, generic, and tell her nothing about how you’d work with her.

Here is what works:

✅1. Tell her a specific story, not a category.
Not "I love reading."
Try: "I have read every Toni Morrison novel three times. I keep going back because the way she structures a sentence is what I aspire to in how I write a brief."

✅2. Connect the off-resume thing to a skill the job requires.
" I run a book club for diaspora women that I started during the pandemic. It taught me how to facilitate hard conversations with people who disagree. That’s a skill I bring to every team. "

✅3. Reveal something specific about your values.
"Every Saturday for the last two years I have tutored a 12-year-old in math. She’s now top of her class. It’s the thing I’m most proud of right now."

She is not asking what you do for fun. She is asking who you are when the credentials are not in that space. Show her.

“I really thought I would be further by now.”

That was me at 30.

I thought I would have a PhD, work at the World Bank or IMF, and be on my way to becoming a director. When that wasn’t my reality, I genuinely felt behind.

If you’ve been feeling behind in life or in your career, I break down 3 things you can try when that feeling shows up.

If you're struggling right now with grief, money or failed exams, please don't carry it alone. Tell someone. A trusted friend, a roommate, someone at church. Let them help you.

In my last reel about being called "olodo, the dunce," I said the in-betweens weren't in it. This is one of them.

After my dad died in my first year at Unilag, I lost both parents and all my financial security. I sold pure water and eggs in Moremi Hall to survive, and there were days I had nothing to eat and nowhere to stay. I failed my accountancy exams twice in those years, and I honestly felt like a failure. Why is it only me?

I studied ten hours a day, but honestly, people are what got me through. My roommates fed me when I was hungry, friends opened their homes to me, and a young man I met in 2010 shared his small monthly allowance with me when he barely had anything himself. I married him, and 8+ years later we're still growing stronger in God's love 🥹❤️

I didn't get here alone, and I don't think anyone really does.

So send this to the person God sent to carry you, and tell them thank you. They might not know how much it mattered.

All glory to God, who kept sending me people when I had no one 🤍

How to get promoted in a Canadian workplace 🇨🇦

As a new immigrant, I’ve been promoted 3 times in under 4 years in Canada, and these are the 7 unwritten rules that affect who gets promoted. None of them are in your job description.

1️⃣ Your manager says “You’re doing a great job” in every one-on-one. That doesn’t mean you’re getting promoted. It means you’re good at the job you have now. Ask them: “What would you need to see from me to put me forward for a senior role?”

2️⃣ Canadian feedback is polite, so it’s easy to miss. “That’s interesting” often means no. “Have you considered adding the numbers?” means add the numbers. Fix it before it shows up in your review.

3️⃣ When promotion time comes, your manager won’t remember everything you did. When you finish something big, send them a short note on what you did and what changed because of it.

4️⃣ When your manager asks “What do you think?”, don’t just explain what happened. Tell them what you would do and why. Something like: “I’d go with option B, because…”

5️⃣ “Can you cover for me while I’m away?” is an audition. Covering for your manager, even for a week, is when leadership sees whether you can handle the next level. Say yes.

6️⃣ A mentor gives you advice. A sponsor is someone senior who puts your name forward when promotions are being discussed, usually in meetings you’re not in. Pick a director or senior leader who has seen your work, and tell them the role you want next so they can advocate for you

7️⃣ If you want the promotion, say it out loud. Your manager can’t support an ambition you’ve never mentioned. Ask: “I want to be promoted in the next 6 months to a year. What do I need to show you?”

If you grew up like me believing good work speaks for itself, it doesn’t. The whole game is for you to learn what your workplace interprets as initiative, leadership, visibility and readiness.

Save this and follow @claritywithsimi for more 📌

‼️Comment PROMOTED and I’ll send you the exact scripts to use for your next promotion conversations.

A swap simply means exchanging your currency from one currency to another, like USD to CAD.

And Expedier can reward you just for doing that. The Expedier Mega Rewards is live, and you could win prizes like iPhone 18 Pro Max, iPhone Duo, iPhone 17 Series, Samsung Galaxy Fold, MacBooks, PS5s, AirPods, smartwatches, bags of rice, cash prizes and more

How to qualify: Refer 5 people in Canada, the US, UK or Ghana
→ each person signs up with your referral code
→ each person completes a swap of at least $300
→ once all 5 complete their swaps, you qualify for Mega Rewards.

And guess what? Even if you refer just 1 person, you still get a gift! That’s how easy it is.

Use my referral code: Simi6510

Sign up with my code, complete your $300 swap and you can get up to a $30 bonus too.

Job hunting in Canada and nothing’s coming back? I’ve been there.

I sent over 100 applications in 18 months. I had the credentials, just no Canadian experience, and honestly no idea where to look. Nobody told me these places existed.

So I put them all in one post. Paid internships, free mentorship, credential recognition, even the Job Bank section most people never open.

If one of these helped you, or you know one I missed, please share it in the comments. Someone reading this really needs it.
