Want to know how two instruments with diametrically opposed pitch tendencies actually play in tune? So do we!

JUST KIDDING Erin and I are very proud of our intonation as a duo 🥰 We like warming up with some drone work where one of us plays the root of a chord and the other plays long tones up the chord. We chose an augmented chord yesterday because it feels very October-core to us! 👻

Come listen to us play tons of fun and in tune intervals in NDG on Saturday, November 7th @ 1:30 pm! More info at the link in my bio 🎉

What do you do when you have an entire concert hall to yourself for an afternoon? 🤔

Well, you let your bestie @tedcameron123 and his sound recording class experiment with your flute and clarinet duo, of course!!

It was truly so fun to rehearse with Erin yesterday in Pollack Hall, whose natural reverb lasts like 5 entire seconds hahaha such a treat! 🥰

Here is the second piece I recorded for the International Flute Competition Peter-Lukas Graf in Memoriam this summer! 🩷

I performed this Sonata during my final Bachelor’s recital way back in 2018 and it’s been one of my favourite flute pieces since then! Though it always feels quite daunting to perform the entire sonata with all the repeats and so many notes!! Nothing beats that first movement though - a true gem of our repertoire 🩷

You can listen to all three movements through the link in my bio! :)

Have you ever worked on or performed this piece? How does it rank in your top favourite flute pieces of all time??

I had the pleasure of working on the first two movements of the Taktakishvili Flute Sonata with @ceciliachowpiano for a competition this summer and I’m so happy with how our recording turned out! 🥰

It’s one of my all-time favourite flute pieces but I had never performed it or recorded it before, so this was a real treat. I’m hoping to eventually record the third movement as well!

You can listen to the whole recording on YouTube through the link in my bio :)

Have you worked on this piece before? Which movement is your favourite?

This summer I participated in the first edition of this lovely flute competition held in the memory of Peter-Lukas Graf, and last week I received the results for my category!

I didn’t end up scoring very high but I did learn a lot about myself through the video recording process. I learned to be more present in each note I was playing, rather than worry about what was coming up next in the piece. I learned to manage my energy better throughout long takes. And I learned to recognize when I liked my playing enough to share it with the world, despite its imperfections 🩷

This was my first competition since 2019 and it had been a while since I’d had my playing judged but the jury had nice and helpful comments for me, which I know will make me a better musician in the future :)

I’ll be uploading my recordings of the CPE Bach Solo Sonata in A minor and the first two movements of the Taktakishvili Sonata in the coming weeks, so make sure you’re subscribed to my YouTube channel to be notified when I post!

Thank you to everyone who organized this competition @ifc.plgraf ! 🥰

Erin and I have completed our recordings of the Kummer duet we love so much! I think this movement is my favourite of the three 🥰

You can hear the beginning of the track in this video but you can listen to the full thing, and the other movements, through the link in my bio :)

Have you ever played this duet? It’s so lovely!

Please allow me to brag for a moment - this was the first take I recorded of Daphnis a few weeks ago for an audition tape and I think I kind of nailed it 😊

This is one of my favourite excerpts, despite how difficult it can be! It’s so flutey and beautiful and you get to keep the audience on its toes about where the music is going in every phrase.

Do you enjoy working on this excerpt? :)

I love teaching! I love my students! I love the flute!!!

I feel like I probably neglected 20 other really important lessons but this will have to suffice for now 😂

What lessons have you learned from teaching over the years? :)

Oh the gems Marcel Moyse left us with 🥰

This is an excerpt from Bizet's Carmen, which I really don't recognize despite having watched and listened to the whole opera before (though ... a long time ago). I was sightreading this, as an ongoing commitment to warm up with at least one page of this fantastic book every time I practice.

It is sooo helpful in developing a musical ear and working on phrasing and beauty of tone. I love that Moyse included so many vocal excerpts because who else should we turn to for phrasing tips if not singers??

Have you used this book before? Which other Moyse method books do you like? I love all of them! 🥰
