Meet Caitlin Berger, half of ensemble Camellia, who will be performing at our November concert next Saturday!⁣
Caitlin Berger is a professional flutist and teacher based in Montreal. She has recently obtained a Graduate Diploma in Flute Performance from the Université de Montréal under the tutelage of Denis Bluteau, after having obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Orchestral Performance from McGill University under the same teacher.⁣
During her studies at CEGEP Vanier, Caitlin had the honour of representing her school as a finalist in the CEGEPs en Concert solo competition in 2015. In 2013, she was the winner of the West Island Youth Symphony Orchestra (WIYSO) Concerto Competition and performed Cécile Chaminade’s Concertino with the orchestra later that year. This past July, Caitlin made her international debut at the Concours de flûte de Paris, placing in the semifinals.⁣
A devoted orchestral musician, Caitlin was a member of WIYSO for five seasons, as well as holding the position of principal flute for three seasons in the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra. She also has a strong passion for pedagogy and self-improvement. She has been teaching young flutists for over three years and was recently appointed as the new flute instructor at the Fortissimo Academy of Music and Arts in Côte-Saint-Luc.⁣

Ensemble Camellia is made up of flutist Caitlin Berger and clarinetist Emilia Segura, Montreal based performers and friends. Since meeting at the Montreal Youth Symphony Orchestra in 2014, they have played and performed together many times, including during their studies at McGill University. They recently decided to form an ensemble in order to share rarely performed repertoire for clarinet and flute with Montreal audiences.⁣

Here are some action shots from our presentation yesterday at the women’s shelter, Chez Doris. We were so glad to be included in their special day!
The women at the shelter were excited to hear our music and we had so much fun playing and singing with them. We can’t wait to be back at the home in February 2019, connecting people through sharing our love of women’s music.
