New marble sculpture @artbasel with @galeriaomr : “Red Algae (three arms)”, carved from Arabescato del Rey marble.

Formed from Jurassic-age limestone and transformed over millions of years through heat and pressure, the marble carries traces of ancient marine life - shells, corals, and sedimentary deposits nearly 200 million years old. The work continues my ongoing interest in the connections between living ecosystems and deep geological time.

Alongside the sculpture, we are showing two marble paintings, creating a dialogue between the carved form and the paintings, and the way both works emerge from the same material - one from the stone itself, the other from its residue. The works reflect my ongoing interest in exploring the full potential of a material, extending its life beyond a single form and embracing a more circular and sustainable approach to creating.

Fractal Forest, 2026 @aaaahhhparisinternationale @galleriavistamare

Booth A0.01
187-189 Quai de Valmy, Paris

Eight unique sculptures in yew and common holly brought together in a new monumental installation. The sculptures emerge from a 600 cm long sequoia trunk sourced from the Jura mountains, in the forest of my hometown, where the tree had to be felled as part of forest management. Together, the eight forms transform a single trunk into a forest in miniature, each with its own distinct character yet connected by a shared origin. The work explores the endless variations of organic forms and the sculptural possibilities of wood, bringing together the raw presence of the tree and the precise gestures of carving.

Alongside Fractal Forest, Turn and Slip and Jungle Paintings are on view until Saturday. by @claudiacomte

In Carrara, among the marble quarries, seeing the stone at its source.

Carrara marble originated from marine sediments around 200 million years ago, which were transformed over time by heat and pressure into the stone I often work with today. Walking through these mountains is always a humbling experience that puts things into perspective, reminding me of the immense timescales of geology and how brief our own presence is in comparison…

Finding the right block is the beginning of a much longer process. Each sculpture starts with a shape carved by hand in wood, which is gradually developed using the chainsaw and refined through weeks of sanding and polishing in the studio. Only then is the wooden shape 3D scanned and translated into marble.

The material is extraordinary because it carries such a long history within it, yet remains so present and tangible, with its own veins, imperfections and variations that make every block (and therefore sculpture) unique. Since my first visit 13 years ago, I continue to be amazed every time I return! It’s truly special coming back to these mountains and to be working with the same teams, whose knowledge and craftsmanship have been passed down through generations of families. taken in Carrara, Italy by @claudiacomte

A new feature in CAMINADA. Magazine, photographed by Anne Morgenstern and accompanied by an interview with Caroline Micaela Hauger.

It was a pleasure to welcome Caroline to the studio on a beautiful spring day back in April. We spoke about my practice, the way I work, and how much the studio and the landscape around it have become part of my daily life and inspiration.

Anne captured the atmosphere of the place beautifully. It was actually not the first time she had visited — a few years ago, when we had just moved onto the property, she came to portrait me for Konfekt Magazine. So it felt a little like coming full circle, and lovely to see how much the place has slowly evolved since then.

Thank you to the CAMINADA. team for this feature, and to Caroline and Anne for the wonderful conversation and images.

Full story in German at the link below, or find the print edition at newsstands in Switzerland.

I took a road trip to the South of France with Svetlana. We visited some of my favorite places and checked on some of the works I installed lately.
From Saint-Paul-de-Vence at Fondation CAB to Domaine du Muy, we couldn’t help to stop by at Dragon Hill before hitting Cannes for a fun night out. ❤️

Making the most of these late summer days at the studio. I’ve transformed the surface of the sequoia sculpture Nikolai, revealing a material that creates a new relationship between fragility and durability.

The process draws on the Japanese tradition of yakisugi, also known as shou sugi ban, where wood is deliberately charred to protect and strengthen it.

Originally created in 2023, the sculpture emerges from the fire changed - Its surface now carrying the trace of that transformation, and a new layer of its life. by @claudiacomte

As part of @kunsttagebasel weekend, we unveil the next step in a long-standing friendship and creative dialogue between Swiss artist @claudiacomte and @nordsternbasel - an institution that has stayed true to its role as a home for music and community in Basel for over two decades.

Recurring wave forms, a signature pattern in Comte's practice, drawn from systems found throughout nature, will become the ship's new visual language, echoing sound, water and growth. Because rhythm isn't just structural - It's what makes us move, what draws people together in shared space and shared time. This intervention doesn't introduce something foreign to Nordstern; it makes visible a pulse that was always already there.

Join us for the first public glimpse of the 2.5 meter 3D model and overall vision!

Bar Futura, Nordstern, Westquaistrasse 19, Basel
Saturday, August 29 | 18:00–02:00

A new cultural landmark for Basel, made possible together with those who share this vision. Get in touch to be part of it.

Spent the weekend at @istitutosvizzero, where I was lucky enough to live for one wonderful year as an artist in residence 16 years ago. It felt so special to be back - this time with the kids, sharing the stories and memories that make this place so meaningful to me and my work.

We just opened “A Closed System”, my new permanent site-specific wall painting at @galleriavistamare in Pescara, Italy.

Installed alongside a group of mushroom sculptures carved from grey Bardiglio marble, the installation unfolds as an immersive environment where material, architecture, and rhythm continuously respond to one another. The work enters into dialogue with the eighteenth-century palazzo, its frescoed ceilings and layered history. creating a subtle tension between memory, transformation, and the present.

For the first time, the wall painting was made using marble powder collected from the remnants of my own sculptures. Material that once existed as solid form returns as pigment, carrying the memory of previous works into a new surface and a new rhythm. Completing the installation with the marble sculptures allows the full cycle of the material to become visible - A reflection of the circular ethos at the core of my practice.

The waves moving across the walls explore the relationship between movement and matter, bringing together the fluidity of natural systems with the permanence and geological history held within marble.

I am deeply honored that “A Closed System” now joins permanent installations by Ettore Spalletti and Sol LeWitt within one of the rooms of this remarkable palazzo. Experiencing the work in conversation with the architecture and its history makes this project especially meaningful. Pescara is a city with a rich cultural history and well worth a visit! The gallery is currently also showing a beatuiful solo exhibition by Francesca Banchelli.

Thank you to @galleriavistamare for the invitation, and warm hospitality, and to everyone whose work & time helped bring this project to life.

This week at the European Agroforestry Conference EURAF 2026 in Neuchâtel, I was honoured to be invited as a keynote speaker and to share a simple truth: “In nature, nothing exists alone”.

Standing with scientists, policymakers and farmers from all over the world, I was reminded why these conversations matter - why the intersections of art, ecology, and land stewardship are so vital right now.

Agroforestry makes visible what we often overlook: the relationships between soil and biodiversity, between productivity and ecological care, between what we inherit and what we leave behind. It’s a model for working with nature rather than against it.

Through excursions into nature, conversations with foresters and farmers, something became clear - resilience depends on recognising connection. On designing systems that integrate rather than separate.

Art alone doesn’t solve the climate crisis. But it can cultivate attention. It can shift how we see, and how we care.

Grateful for this moment and everyone working towards a different future. 🌲
