Latin Americans are asking once again to be added to the Census.

There’s no alternative to a standalone category. It’s that simple.

📢 HAVE YOU EVER STRUGGLED TO FIND YOUR ETHNICITY ON A FORM?

❓ “Which box do I tick?”
❓ “Where is the Latin American option?”

🚨The ONS has just launched a public consultation on ethnicity in the UK. This is OUR moment to advocate once again for official recognition - to get Latin Americans on the census for 2031! ✊🏽✊🏾✊🏿

Right now, Latin Americans are INVISIBLE in national data 📊

This means:
❌ Services aren’t planned for our needs
❌ No funding allocated for our communities
❌ We don’t exist in the statistics
❌ Our cultures are not recognised

✨We’ve been advocating for official recognition since 2012. Now we’re taking this campaign further and WE NEED YOU!

Join us in getting Latin Americans ON THE CENSUS.

📅 Join our info sessions - we’ll guide you step by step in how you can contribute to getting Latin Americans recognised and you’ll be able to ask us questions regarding this work⏰

What wonderful news to receive during Latin American Heritage Month 🙌

Thank you 💛 to everyone who responded to the ONS consultation on ethnicity categories.

Together, individuals and organisations made Latin American voices heard and called for recognition in UK statistics.

The final decision is expected in Spring 2027, and we’ll share news the moment we have it. We’re one step closer to visibility! 🎉

Click here to learn more 👉 There are around half a million of us in the UK, about the size of Edinburgh. But the census doesn’t count us.

Without ethnicity data, the NHS can’t plan services, councils can’t allocate funding, and discrimination in housing and work can’t be tracked. Community organisations are told there’s “no evidence of need” because we don’t appear in the statistics.

But recognition is already happening. Southwark, Lambeth, Hackney, the GLA, Arts Council England, King’s College London and others now include Latin American as a monitoring category.

The census should too.

Tag @officefornationalstatistics and tell them why it is important for ‘Latin American’ to be recognised as an official ethnic category. by @clauk.org.uk

A message for Benito, from CLAUK.
