THEE tommy the cat performance for @lesclaypool day!!
late post because i kept contemplating what was the perfect performance to post for colonel’s birthday and obviously it’s this. i actually cannot believe ive never posted this before, i had to double check like five times because it was so unfathomable to me. how he sings and plays that fast i will never know. also that outfit!!! nobody does it like him!!
primus performing tommy the cat in 1998’s videoplasty.

happy @larrylalondeofficial day to those who celebrate!!!! THEE coolest guitar player of all time.
ler (as per usual) absolutely tearing it up on jerry was a race car driver at RFK stadium on june 3rd 1995. MY fave ler guitar part is harold of the rocks but i couldn’t find any good footage of that so i had to go with my close second favorite.
boy howdy have i been absolutely radio silent on here!! life got busy and ive been working out the logistics of starting a primus fanzine (open to submissions, obviously) because i feel like its the one thing the fandom is lacking so. be on the lookout for that. i promise i will be more active again trust!!!

les attempting to teach his kids how to play whamola mid-frog brigade gig. they both seem deeply confused the entire time. happy father’s day!!
happy father’s day also to my dad who does not follow this account but did wait two hours in a thunderstorm at the railing with me so i could see claypool gold front row even though we were both sopping wet and starving with blisters. you’re the best!!

les claypool soloing for blind illusion in 1988.
this is in between primus breaks and the third time he had joined blind illusion (this time around with ler!! he’s in the unclipped concert video too. that skater fit is unmistakable). midway through this tour les left to start back up primus and at the end of the tour ler left the band to join him. they’re so young (and blonde) here it’s kind of insane.
i’ve realized i call myself claypoolarchive but normally only post primus videos so im gonna start making an effort to amend that even if it lowkey flops. expect sausage and frog brigade videos soon.

“wynona’s…. big… brown.. beaver.”
primus performing wynona’s big brown beaver at RFK stadium on june 3rd, 1995. it’s insane that not only have i never posted a wynona clip, ive never posted anything from this gig?? its always been one of my favorites i cannot believe myself.
also ive always felt ‘95 les’s hair looked insanely neon yellow but it actually looks really good here it matches his outfit well.

i sincerely wish the audio quality of this was better im sorry all
les and ler fishin’ with jackie farray of mtv’s superock in 1995 to promote tales from the punchbowl. les also has her mow his lawn and gives her a pretty sweet house tour (what was it with bands giving house tours in the 90s?? can someone please enlighten me as to why this was such a big trend. was it just because of mtv’s cribs.)
is it crazy to say “c’mere son!” reminds me of cartman’s “you should’t’ve done that. he’s just a little feller”

in honor of them playing this at the gig i saw in columbus on the sixth🫡
primus playing the toys go winding down in january 1991 on the show on rust. they also played mr knowitall and tommy the cat.
im gonna be so honest after the show i was too sore and exhausted to post. i like completely threw my neck out and my legs and arms both hurt so bad (??? idk why. i think it’s from standing at the railing for so long). i can’t complain tho the setlist ruled and les complimented my electric apricot shirt at the q&a so a win is a win no matter how sore or soaked i was from the thunderstorm beforehand.

les making the ultimate sandwich
i have no genuine reason to post this and i assume no one will find it as funny as i do but im posting it anyway!! i wish the pork soda in the background wasn’t so insanely loud but there’s nothin i can do about it unfortunately.

ok i try not to post repeats of songs or performances but i rewatched this recently and its too good not to post.
primus performing frizzle fry at KZSU radio on may 3rd 1989, again as i previously said in my last post of this gig there’s only one video of this that’s high quality and it doesn’t have all the performances and it bums me out deeply. i rewatch the low quality version frequently but it sorta sucks to be able to count every pixel on les, ler and herb’s faces when i know for a fact there’s a high quality version of the whole gig out there somewhere.
also hey hey guess whos seein’ primus tomorrow??? i’ve never been this excited in my life. les play sgt baker or this song and i will somehow love you more than i already do🙏

“come!! visit me!! … i don’t want any of you coming here.”
les giving a tour of his home studio to techtv’s audiofile. i think this is 2000?? imdb says the series lasted one season in 2000 so im just kind of filling in the blanks here cuz i can’t find a lot of info on this specific episode. 2000 does make sense timeline wise though considering the fact that he’s mixing a live frog brigade album in this.
this entire video is really fun i just think this is arguably the funniest part. the les claypool for president bit is pretty funny too.

whoever saw tommy the cat last night know that i am jealous of you and have been thinking about it literally all day.
primus playing tommy the cat on mtv’s annual spring break program in 1992. they notoriously didn’t wanna play this (they only did because les’s manager said that if they kept saying no to performances like this their label was going to drop them) and so les and ler are actively out of their minds on acid in this clip and you can’t even really tell!!
also ler using the mic stand as a slide for his guitar is insane and might potentially be my favorite primus moment of all time
