Clean Loop Canine is growing! 🐾

We are so excited to officially welcome our new Apprentice Trainer to the Clean Loop Canine team.

Coming from the world of thoroughbred racing, she already understands animals, timing, consistency, and the importance of clear communication. She has taken to dog training incredibly quickly, and we are excited to continue developing her skills under the Clean Loop Canine umbrella.

As she progresses through her apprenticeship, she’ll be assisting with training and client communication, offering low-cost lessons when applicable, and helping us introduce a few new services along the way.

Most importantly, this growth means we can offer better support to our clients—both new and old. Whether your dog has just completed training or you’re looking for help continuing your journey at home, we’re excited to have another set of knowledgeable hands available to help you and your dog succeed.

We can’t wait to introduce you to her and show you what we’re building. Welcome to the Clean Loop Canine team! 🧡🐕

Also we miss you Dolly 🙏

If you’ve ever felt embarrassed by your dog in public or at home, avoided certain places, or wondered why nothing you’re trying seems to work (or it only works in your living room)—you’re not alone. I’m Kirsten, and that’s exactly why I created Clean Loop Canine.

My approach is built around something simple but powerful: clear communication. The behaviorists call it a “clean loop”—it’s a complete conversation with your dog where you ask, they respond, you mark and reinforce it, and then repeat the cue. No confusion, no mixed signals, no “what now?” moments. Good training is clear training.

Most training struggles aren’t about stubborn dogs—they’re about breakdowns in communication. When you teach the right cues, and add meaning to your words, you’ll have a dog who responds quickly and consistently.

I help owners figure out exactly where things are breaking down and how to move forward with a clear, realistic plan. If you’re feeling stuck, overwhelmed, or unsure where to start, you don’t have to figure it out alone.

That’s what I’m here for.

Instead of repeatedly throwing the same ball and waiting for them to bring it back then repeating try a “two-ball” game.

Some pro tips:
- Start with two identical today that you can hold on to. Ideally a ball with a rope attached.
- Say “ready, switch” then make the toy you want them to drop “go dead” and make the other one interesting and “alive”
- Make sure to celebrate when they drop the dead toy and go for the live one.
- Bonus points if you add extra cues in between throws like “touch” for a nose to hand boop, or “around” for run around me then catch.

Miloh would like to remind everyone that she is the one hustling and putting in the hours at @cleanloopcanine and it would be nothing without her. She performs best in front of a live audience but she was also happy to work in front of the camera to show off a little.

Some dogs do well in a one-size-fits-all training program and others require a more customized approach. Riggs is definitely the latter. Heelers are known for their ability to focus and work for hours at a time. When it comes to heeling I tell most of my owners that requiring a dog to walk in a straight line at the same speed is unnatural and this behavior needs to be built slowly to hold up in the real world.

I told this owner the opposite. This dog THRIVES on structure and crystal clear instructions. He can stay in a heel for extended periods of time and I’ve tasked this owner with raising his expectations.

You’ll hear him whining when passing this child and parent. This dog knows kids move quickly and his genetics tell him to focus, chase and potentially bite things that move quickly and erratically. We are building chase and bite into his day AFTER he shows us how well he can focus.

Riggs is one example of a dog owned by an excellent owner with a strong understanding of training in general who needed a small tweak in his strategy to make real progress during walks and in their home.

If you find yourself in a similar situation with well trained dogs who could benefit from some fresh thinking to solve daily struggles, we are here and ready to help.

Schedule a FrEe Strategy Session if you’re in the Lexington KY area.

As a dog trainer whom previously trimmed horse hooves professionally, it is impulse for me to look at a dog’s face first, then straight down to their nails.

Why? Because I know that the length of a dog’s nails can alter the way they move – sometimes permanently. Nails that get too long can cause the phalanges to misalign. Imagine if you were forced to walk with your toes bent sideways at odd angles. Doesn’t sound great does it?

As dog owners it’s never fun to wrestle our dogs into submission to get this task done. It’s especially difficult to do without extra hands.

That’s why I’m adding mobile dog nail trims to the list of services Clean Loop Canine offers. I come to your home and trim your pets nails.

While my primary focus will always be helping owners train and better communicate with their dogs — including teaching dogs the skills needed for stress-free nail trims at home — I also understand that not every dog is there yet and sometimes it just needs to get DONE. This service will help owners avoid costly vet visits, or stressful grooming experiences.

I to offer a more personalized alternative through in-home nail trim services designed with your dog’s comfort in mind for $50 a trim. Each additional dog at the same location is discounted to $25.

For my own safety, dogs showing signs of fear, extreme stress, or aggression may be safely muzzled during the appointment.

I’m currently serving the Lexington area. Use the “Mobile Nail Trim” link in my bio to schedule. Feel free to message me with questions.

Don’t have a dog or have a dog but don’t need this service? You can still support me by sharing this post.

When my video with Nashadi at the vet started getting attention, what stayed with me most wasn’t the hundreds of thousands of views. It was the number of veterinary professionals who took time out of their already demanding days to comment about how much they appreciated seeing a dog who understood exactly what was being asked of her.

THAT hit me right in the feels.

Before dog training, I trimmed horse hooves for a living. I know what it feels like to work with an animal who is confused, resistant, or afraid, and I know how quickly that can become stressful or unsafe for everyone involved.

With my own experience in mind, I considered the immense physical and emotional demands veterinary professionals carry every day and those comments meant even more. This is a profession facing unprecedented levels of burnout and mental health strain. The fact that so many vets and techs paused to say “thank you for this” says everything about how needed this work is.

The strategy I used for Nashadi’s vet visit was originally something I taught for nail trims at home. It wasn’t perfect by any means but it did highlight how small things can go a long ways.

This isn’t about tricks or obedience. It’s about giving dogs clear communication so they understand what to expect, building trust through predictability, and creating safer care experiences for dogs, owners, and veterinary professionals alike.

I’m putting together an in-depth cooperative care training series that will walk you through exactly how I taught these skills (and how you can teach your dog) step by step.

Because this work is deeply connected to the wellbeing of veterinary professionals, a portion of every sign-up purchase will be donated to “Not One More Vet”. @notonemorevet

Everyone loved the last video where I showed a practical behavior for vet visits…

So naturally—here’s the exact opposite.

A completely unnecessary, slightly ridiculous, but wildly impressive skill: Miloh riding a one-wheel.

This was actually her first time back on it since last year, so she’s still finding her footing—but give her a little time and she’ll be cruising like she owns the place.

Miloh is the kind of dog trainers dream about—eager, athletic, thoughtful, and always trying to figure things out. She makes me look good, but the truth is, this kind of engagement and trust isn’t luck—it’s built.

And whether your goal is calm vet visits or party tricks that make people stop in their tracks… it all comes from the same foundation.

If you want a dog that’s this connected, this confident, and this fun to live with—Clean Loop Canine offers free strategy sessions to help you get there.

Vet visits with your dog don’t have to feel stressful and chaotic—but a lot of owners aren’t sure which behaviors actually create calmer, safer experiences. And without the right language, communicating your plan to your veterinarian and their team can feel awkward.

When the tech came in and said, “Okay, I’ll take her back now,” I calmly explained that we’d have a safer, more positive experience if she stayed with me.

Important: this wasn’t because Nashadi needed coddling—that would actually set her back. I asked for an exception because we’ve trained a specific behavior for moments like shots, nail trims, and paw handling. When I ask for “nose,” Nashadi understands that touch is likely to follow.

In this video, I first explain to the tech that I’d like to do two “dry runs” where she only pets her. This step matters for a few reasons:
• It prevents Nashadi from immediately anticipating a poke
• It allows the tech to see how strong and consistent the behavior is
• It gives me a chance to evaluate whether Nashadi is ready for the real thing

If she isn’t confidently offering a nose target during simple petting, she definitely won’t handle a needle well.

You’ll notice Nashadi’s slightly stiff posture—she’s a bit on edge, with a subtle lean away from the new person. That’s valuable information. She’s not relaxed, but she’s also not escalating. Since this was our second round of shots, I felt confident proceeding.

When she actually received the shot, she did break her nose target (not ideal), but she didn’t have a negative experience—and that’s the goal. Safe, neutral, and building toward better.

If you want help building these kinds of real-life skills, reach out to Clean Loop Canine to book a free strategy session.

Some of you might recognize @TeeDeeYoung from the jazz scene and music is how we connected.

We met at Proud Mary’s while I had Miloh out on the dance floor “dancing.” Miloh’s cute tricks turned into a real conversation about his dog’s behavior.

Not because Tino was a “bad” dog—far from it.
He already had a strong foundation and many hours of training.

But like so many dogs, there was just one sticking point. In tino’s case the struggle was walking calmly past other dogs without the stress, pulling, or panic.

We see this often. Most dog owners don’t get stuck at “sit”. Instead they struggle to move past a more specific issue.

Owners like Tee Dee aren’t at square one—
but somewhere in the middle, knowing their dog is capable of more… just not sure how to get there.

Tino didn’t need a complete overhaul.

He just needed clarity, structure, and a communication system.

And once that clicked—everything started to feel easier.

If you’ve ever found yourself thinking,
“My dog is great, except for this one thing…” or maybe there are a few unwanted behaviors you’d like to move past–you’re exactly who I built this for.

I offer free strategy sessions to help you connect the dots and move forward with a clear plan.
DM me “DOG” or head to the link in my bio—help is closer than you think.
