Singularity is a light in a seemingly ever-growing, looming cloud of technological despair that says that just maybe, things will be more than ok. Maybe, things will be beautiful.

Recap from @artwithmelife Miami last November. Where should I bring this act next?

Them- "Those lights are so pretty can I touch them?"
Me- "Yes, but please dont taste them"

Them- "That would never fit in my suitcase"

Them-*wanders starry eyed under the lights* "What is this called?"
Me- "A hippy trap, and it just worked"

Them- "You're peacocking so hard right now!"
Me- "Ya, and this time they gave me lights!"

Them- "You look like a giant peacock, but that's too many syllables. Do you have a nickname?"
Me- "Sure, you can just call me The Cock"
Them-*follows me around for the next half hour, solely referring to me as The Cock*

The curse of discipline is that every day looks the same. The curse of no discipline is that every year looks the same.

Finally back and settled…ish from Learning Man. Still have a few more things to post, but first: my latest episode of the @the_remarkable_podcast is live, and it’s with my dear friend Dalton (@clearhumaneyes).

I met Dalton at my first Burning Man several years ago. My camp job (Gallery) was guarding the fire spinning platform for a few hours, and I ended up with a front row seat to one of the most present performers I have ever seen. A couple nights later I found him again and told him we were going to be friends and that he didn’t really have a choice.

It’s been great getting to see him around the community in Austin over the last few years. He was one of the first guests I wanted on the podcast, and I’m glad I did it, because once I heard his full story I realized there are so many levels to this human.

He was on track to be a physicist. Then he picked up a levi wand at a festival and knew his life was about to change. He walked away from the PhD, toured the country out of his car, and went completely broke. The same day his bank account hit zero, Cirque du Soleil emailed him with a full time offer.

Sometimes you follow the nudge and the universe catches you.

Now he runs his own company, choreographs and programs his own drone shows, builds custom tech, and performs around the world. And he’s stayed one of the most humble, down to earth people I know. That’s the part I admire most. Just a good human.

This is exactly why I started this podcast: to share the stories of people doing it differently.

Bank account: zero. Inbox: Cirque du Soleil.

As much as you want to run on love and appreciation, that doesn't pay the bills. Dalton Sessumes hit a solid zero in his bank account and faced the big "what do I do next" moment every artist dreads.

Then he opened his email and found an invitation from Cirque du Soleil, the leading circus arts company in the world, with massive productions in Las Vegas and touring shows everywhere. The opportunity: a 6-month cruise ship show. Proof that sometimes the breakthrough shows up exactly when you're at the bottom.

He's not building a show. He's building the next circus.

Fire spinning at Burning Man. Drone shows. Performance art. But when asked what he wants to be known for, Dalton Sessumes goes bigger: a hub of creativity, an HQ focused entirely on one field of art, with all the tools and systems in place to push it as far as it can go.

The core of the vision is integration. Merging technology with performance, two vastly different worlds, is where he's found the most success in his life. Now he wants all of it under one roof.

His distraction turned out to be his calling.

The study material was open on Dalton Sessumes' laptop. But he was on the kitchen floor inventing circus props. At some point he had to look at his life honestly: he was clearly being drawn to something other than what he said he wanted to do. So he made a decision.

That kitchen floor invention, smoke inside a stick, became his first fusion of technology and performance. More importantly, it was the first time he saw a vision he wanted to make real and actually did it. That step, from imagining to making, is the one most artists never take.
