Full Moon at Hollyhock House Saturday night during the screening of the entertaining Model Shop directed by Jacques Demy, from 1969, starring Anouk Aimee and Gary Lockwood. Full of great Los Angeles scenes. Demy said he learned the city by driving from one end of Sunset to the other and all the way down to Western to Long Beach. I love New York and The Seagram Building by Mies van der Rohe 1956 to 1958 thanks to the genius and foresight of Phyllis Bronfman Lambert, Edgar Bronfman’s daughter, who at 27 who convinced her father to hire Mies. The building also has one of the only landmarked restaurant interiors in New York, the original Four Seasons Restaurant by Philip Johnson 1959. Truly one of the best restaurant designs ever. I am so grateful I was there more than once before it was sadly renovated. by @cleflufy

In 1958 B.C. Binnings was commissioned to create a tile mosaic for the Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce. I just learned it has more than 200,000 pieces of Venetian glass and he spent three months in Venice overseeing its preparation and then it was shipped to Vancouver in 12 boxes and installed. It is titled British Columbia Beginnings and it is a modernist celebration of B.C’s many resources. My aunt worked in this building so I knew it and after seeing his house on tour earlier this summer I wanted to see it again. You have to seek it out as it is in a Shoppers Drug Mart now but thankfully preserved and viewed from a mezzanine. Dunsmuir and Granville Streets. Vancouver was treated to an incredible thunder, lightning and then torrential rainstorm last night. We stayed up to watch it all. From my phone shooting through the glass door, the city was lit up. taken in False Creek South by @cleflufy

A visit to the recently restored Museum of Anthropology by the great architect Arthur Erickson. I had been since it reopened in 2024 and attended a fantastic lecture by long time Erickson associate Nick Milkovich who worked on the building originally and oversaw the restoration. I had not seen the restoration of Cornelia Hahn Oberlander’s landscaping in front of the great facade. She worked closely with Erickson on many of his projects and a local firm worked with the Musqueam First Nation to restore and protect this beautiful setting. #arthurerickson taken in The University of British Columbia by @cleflufy

Inside The Butterfly Building. Architect Revery completed it in 2024 with the developer Westbank. A unique partnership with the adjacent 1911 First Baptist Church. The church traded the very valuable parking lot and the condominiums financed an extensive restoration of the sanctuary, expanded their community facilities and added a 7 story social/affordable housing building that the church manages. Now the church’s future in downtown Vancouver is now secure long term. I loved the building, and needless to say many do not and it has been a controversial project from the beginning. More pictures in my story today. taken in Vancouver, British Columbia by @cleflufy
