✨What if the most compelling environmental story your museum could tell was hidden in your permanent collection? ✨
@climatemuseumuk has just completed the delivery of its Green Narratives programme, commissioned by #MuseumDevelopmentMidlands.

Over a period of 6 months, participants from 5 museum services - @barberinstitute, @bclivingmuseum, @creswellcrags, #CultureLeicestershire and @derbymuseums - explored how museums can harness their #collections to respond to the #EarthCrisis. From understanding the planetary emergency to looking at collections with an Eco-lens, exploring climate psychology, and designing appropriate displays and interpretation - we delved deep into the multi-faceted ways museums can approach their environmental work.

The programme was designed and delivered by @climatemuseumuk members Justine Boussard (@amateurancestor), Clémence Aycard (@clemence_mcrd), Kathy Moore and Jaime Jackson (@jaime_salt_road), with expert support from @bridget.mck.

We LOVE delivering this kind of training: opening up a space for thoughtful, meaningful and imaginative work that marries rigour, care and commitment to heritage and the Living World.

Thank you so much to our participants and to Olivia Basterfield and the whole team at Museum Development Midlands for trusting us with this! We look forward to seeing which #GreenNarratives 🌿emerge in your various locations in the near and far future! by @climatemuseumuk

Get your tickets for the private view on the 24th April ….link in my bio Open 25th/26th April & 2nd/3rd May 11-5pm. Program of events to be announced. @wrap_space and @sussexbayuk invite you to ‘Tide and Place. An exhibition by UK-based artists exploring our relationship with the sea and coastline.
WRAP and Sussex Bay have partnered with local artists under the banner
‘Sussex Bay Creates’ to demonstrate the ability of art to bring us together to learn, explore and experience, resulting in a programme of curated exhibitions and responses.
‘Tide and Place’ explores how we interact, inhabit, narrate and think of the marine environment, both individually and on a collective scale. In the middle of the Anthropocene crisis, how can we reinforce our position as part of nature, rather than apart from it? The exhibition will reflect a variety of mediums, practices and community initiatives, resulting in a dynamic conversation between the self and the sea. In order @noa_madethis @perditasinclair @katemcminnies @carrie_stanley_artist @ninagarstang @1andyash so much more to see with other Participating Artists: @viewsfromthenorm

Climate Museum UK (the members of our collective) are having a think about how we can respond to changing needs from our partners and audiences, and how we can grow in our capacity.
We need to define our offer and identity more clearly. Being more consultative is part of that.
If you have interacted with us, or would like to in future, we value your input! We’d love it if you can share your thoughts via this very short survey over the next month, by April 21st.
If you can only answer one or two questions, that is fine. Also, please feel free to share this with anyone you think would be interested to contribute.
Here’s what we’re asking:
– Tell us a bit about yourself – it can be anonymous
– How would you describe CMUK based on your impressions or expectations?
– What needs do you have, or see elsewhere, which CMUK could help fulfil?
– What would make you want to join as a collective member of CMUK?
– Who else is doing the kinds of work that CMUK does, that you think we could learn from?
– What are your questions about us? What are you curious about?
The final question is asking if you’d be willing for us to contact you, for further support or consultation. It is perfectly fine if that is not the case! We understand how busy and stressed lives can be.

You will find the survey link in the top blogpost of our website, which is in our bio. by @climatemuseumuk

On World Rewilding Day, and as we at CMUK enter a process of reflection, evaluation and planning for our future (keep an eye out for our brief survey coming soon), it seems a good moment to share one of the questions we’ve pondered in the past - “What does a rewilded museum look like?”
.
CMUK is a distributed museum with team members around the country working collaboratively with a range of cultural and environmental organisations and communities. We are a decentralised, agile and responsive group of creatives and heritage professionals, passionate about the role of culture in bringing positive change. But does that make us wild?
.
Looking ahead to Spring, CMUK team member and freelance Artist/Researcher @jamesaldridgeart will be working with two Rewilding organisations in the SW, @wearefoundoutdoors and @healsomerset
.
Take a look at their websites for more information and booking details for the Animal Mapping art/nature walk at @wearefoundoutdoors in Wiltshire on Saturday 16th May, and a water/wetlands themed Into the Light annual Rewilding gathering at @healsomerset on Friday/Saturday 5th and 6th June.
.
And if you have feedback on our work, what your understanding is of our purpose, how/whether you’ve been involved in CMUK’s work in the past, or any thoughts for the future, then we’d love to hear from you.
.
Happy Rewilding Day! 🌳🐝🪲🦫

We have been enjoying working with @colmuseums on their redevelopment of the Natural History Museum in Colchester, by consulting with teachers, and designing resources and activities. Working with Ruth Catlow from @furtherfield we designed and trialled a pilot workshop for young people to help them imagine multispecies lives and the futures of wildlife sites in Essex. by @climatemuseumuk

We’re pleased to share that Climate Museum UK is a partner in the development of a new publication from art.earth Books with Regen and The Art and Energy Collective:
'On a day like today we just need to look forward…'

Ten years ago, art.earth convened 'Feeding the Insatiable' at Dartington Hall — a gathering exploring creative responses to our apparently insatiable need for energy.
A decade on, this new book revisits that moment and asks:
- How do we imagine energy futures now?
- How do we tell urgent climate stories in a fractured political landscape?
- What role do artists, engineers, activists, communities and thinkers play?

This is an open call for contributions.
We welcome proposals (400-word abstracts) from those engaging intellectually, creatively, practically or theoretically with energy and society — including poetic, speculative, experimental and interdisciplinary work.

We are less interested in definitive ‘solutions’ and more interested in narrative, exploration and dialogue.

Deadline for abstract submissions: 9 May 2026
If accepted, editorial guidance about the form of your contribution
Publication planned: November 2026

As a partner organisation, we are proud to support this invitation and encourage our network to contribute.
