What started with tea, biscuits and a few friends has just won a global innovation prize.

We’re celebrating Eezu Tan, co-founder of @climatewriters and a WELA Giving Circle member.

From those early gatherings, Climate Writers has grown into a national community helping young people turn climate concern into civic action.

As a Giving Circle member, Eezu is also part of a community backing grassroots organisations to grow their impact - which makes this moment especially worth celebrating.

We love spotlighting changemakers in our community, especially those who remind us that big change can start small. by @climatewriters

There’s more than one way to make an impact for our planet, and Eezu has some great tips if you’ve ever wanted to have your voice heard by those making decisions that impact our environment.

The use of AI is increasing our demand for data centres, with 90+ data centres in the pipeline according to The Climate Council. Stay tune for part 2 to learn more about their climate impacts!

On Sunday, we hosted our biggest Climate Writers sesh ever to learn about the impacts of data centres and AI on the environment, grid and water. Thank you to our guest speakers Dr Bronwyn Cumbo (UTS) and Johanna Lim (@usstudiescentre) for sharing their expertise and research with us!

We wrote 30+ submissions to the Federal govt on data centres and AI (due 1 Sept) and on the Browse gas project. Submission guides are in our bio 📝

This is also our founder Eezu’s last Sydney / Gadigal sesh before she moves to Naarm and continues supporting our hubs across Australia.

See you next month 💚 by @climatewriters

Our August sessions focus on data centers and AI. AI is reshaping our world, and its infrastructure is expanding rapidly. But what impact does this boom have on the environment and communities where data centers are built?

Join us on🌏:
📍Gadigal / Redfern: Sunday, August 16, 9:30am to 1pm (previous attendees who have done onboarding come at 10.30am)
📍Naarm / Carlton: Saturday, August 22, 1pm to 4pm (previous attendees who have done onboarding come at 1.40pm)

We’ll also submit a Federal inquiry on data centers and AI and email MPs about climate issues. Bring your laptop or writing device.

pov: Climate Writers from digi 🎞️

Last Sunday, we learned practical ways to manage climate distress and anxiety from @ECOMIND_aus, Australia’s leading youth climate mental health & wellbeing charity. 🦘

🐠 We also submitted responses on the Browse to North West Shelf Development Project, urging the Australian Government to consider the impacts of climate pollution from a WA fossil gas project on the Great Barrier Reef 🪸

👨🏼‍🍼We also asked our MPs to investigate the fossil fuel industry’s influence on children by writing a letter. Comms Declare has released a report uncovering more than 260 programs through which coal, oil and gas companies are gaining access to schools, early childhood centres, museums, community organisations, and education material.
