Can a saddle stand be nostalgic? Maybe. I found this wooden stand on marketplace, and thankfully it hadn't already sold. I have a deep memory of proper, solid frame stands lining the middle of the tack room and covered in saddles to be cleaned. Everything smelled of glycerin soap and neatsfoot oil. The lightbulbs were probably older than you. The tack was probably older than god.

My trick saddle is a hefty beast and can't go on our wall racks because the racks end up no longer attached to the wall. Something about putting it onto a stand that is so like my first experience with horse riding feels deeply resonant.

And to add, the person who sold me the stand was a delight, we talked for the best part of an hour about horses, life, anything.

It's "just" a wooden stand, and it's a story, and it's everything gone before.

Home! What a week! There's too much to update in one go so have these beauties for now: two 1m x 2.4m canvases constructed and painted on site for the @horsemanshiphub Saturday evening show.

By chance these two include pieces from Showcase props of old: the "Barbie Doll" box frames (2024), the Original wings (2023), spares from the Wing Rig v2 (2025).

SIBLINGS. Yes this is as normal as my face gets. Thanks Chris for properly getting into reenactment after moving to AUSTRALIA but at least we're in the same timezone now!

Battle of Hastings 2026! What a grand day out! And managed to meet up with the sibling @chriswilltalkatyou who was taking part in the show.
I definitely need to make more kit. Superb showing from infantry and cavalry and all the living history setups.

Playing with the rear-up in the Wing Rig. If I look nervous it's because I am! I don't want to go too big too soon and unbalance either of us. Poppy did fall over earlier this year when she threw a strop, reared, and lost her footing (we were both fine) - not something I'd like to repeat.

Dismounting in the Wing Rig is very easy. The whole rig is designed to have nothing solid extending past the level of your hips, so nothing solid is in the way.

Finding lateral movements when wearing the wings - we muddled through it.

What gets me about the Wing Rig vs my armour is the way the weight is distributed and how I can feel the wings dragging backwards. I might be able to offset that with adjustments to the backpack straps and by taking some bulk off of the feathers. I don't feel that adding a counterweight to the backpack would assist.

The hiking frame that they are built on has a 'shelf' bar on the base which I should remove as it's not serving any purpose.

Poppy doing absolutely incredibly with the training and getting used to the wings again.

None of my hobbies are normal. The Wing Rig is a living project that I intend to update and work on to improve it.
Surprisingly I didn't get to play-test it much while making it and now having ridden in it a few times I feel the need to apologize profusely to Ollie because these are a *right bastard* 😂

I love them. I will adapt to them. I need to add some more padding, I think I will re-balance the wings so they "tilt" forward and have less weight dragging you back into the saddle, and these are still a bit big to be in scale with a 15.1hh - 16.3hh horse (which is their intended range) so the larger feathers will be shaped to match.

I'd estimate the weight of the whole rig as under 15kgs, it can be hefted and slung over one arm to move - as long as you don't have to go through a small door.

Gambeson for sale! Sadly I wasn't able to attend the event this was bought for. Suitable for 13th c reenactment, LARP, SCA, renfaire, etc. Made by Get Dressed for Battle, size S. Fits me at a 36" chest and 30" waist. RRP was £74, asking £65 or near offer.

It's a bird! It's a plane! It's -! .. I have no idea! Anyone able to help identify this Bandai 1995/1996 transforming toy? I don't think it's a Transformer! You can make most of a robot with these parts, I never had whatever pieces would have been the arms.
