This September 10th, an incredible band @mysonthehurricane is coming to my hometown of Lindsay Ontario and I encourage you to check them out if you’re in the area! This is a high-energy, big sound, multi-singer funk band that’s selling out festivals and theatres.

Living in a small town can sometimes make it harder to see your favourite artists. As a member of @thestrumbellas, I can honestly say that @lindsayacademytheatre is one of the most beautiful theatres in Canada (and one of the oldest!).

Close Kicks teamed up with longtime friend, Eli & The Straw Man to create a minimalist, but repetitive hook. It was written on a Saturday afternoon with two guitars and some old melodies. More friends arrived later to add that group feel. An energy was captured in the recording that captures the love of this long term friendship.

Over the last number of years I’ve had lots of requests for merch and possible a vinyl. Ordering these things in bulk didn’t really make a lot of sense with the large upfront costs, but as of late, more companies have developed on demand strategies for independent artists like myself.

With that said, on demand purchases can be more expensive and there can be duties/taxes as these are made in the UK and USA which can make the costs much more. And with those increased costs, it might not make sense for those who listen to my tunes to purchase these items. This, I totally understand.

Being in a band has given me some incredible experiences, and traveling to Latvia to perform our music for the Canadian Armed Forces and other NATO nations is one that will always stand out. I’m a proud Canadian citizen who is deeply interested in learning everything that makes up this great country. In recent years, I’ve taken pride in engaging with our municipal, provincial, and federal institutions in a meaningful way.
With that said, I’ve never really known anyone in the military or had much experience with those who serve. From the get-go, working with Diana from CFMWS was incredible. We understood where we were going, the risks involved, and the impact that these types of events can have on overall troop morale.
As an active traveler for most of my life, the one thing I constantly tell people is that I’m far more impacted by the people I meet than the places I go. The same can be said for this trip. The soldiers and staff we met were passionate, respectful, knowledgeable, and incredibly caring. The bond between them was inspiring, with their sense of community and national pride on full display.
I had the opportunity to ask so many questions about their deployment, their families, and their most difficult moments. No question was met with resistance, and no one made me feel foolish for asking. Thank you to CFMWS and the Canadian Armed Forces for a truly unforgettable experience—one I will never forget. taken in Riga, Latvia by @close_kicks
