We have a crisis here in the District: domestic-violence related incidents are increasing in our communities, and we have to take action now to better protect our residents.

Today, I am introducing a new bill to support survivors of domestic violence in DC that will:
✅ reduce violence
✅ increase survivor support
✅ protect victim privacy

My bill called the “Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence and Abuse Amendment Act” is a critical tool to help reverse the dangerous trend and support survivors.

Thank you to @chairmanphilmendelson, @cmcharlesallen, @henderson4dc, @cmfrumin @cm_silverman , @brianneknadeau , @cmzparker5, and @anitabondsdc for co-introducing this important bill.

Nothing is more important to me than the safety of District residents and visitors.

The best way to keep our city safe is through our local government and local law enforcement who know our neighborhoods and know how to prevent and fight crime.
Thanks for having me on @theleadcnn. by @cmbrookepinto

Today, @Mayor_Bowser signed my Secure DC bill into law -- a major turning point toward a safer and more secure DC.

I will always fight for the safety and wellbeing of all our neighbors. Regardless of the neighborhood you live in, work in, or visit, everyone deserves to be safe. taken in John A. Wilson Building by @cmbrookepinto

After hearing from dozens of neighbors at our community listening session at Bard High School yesterday, the message is clear: We cannot have armed troops patrolling our school zones – it’s leading to serious fear and intimidation in our communities.

I want to thank everyone who came out and shared their experiences about the reality facing so many DC residents. I also want to thank our incredible panelists and partners in holding this session: DC State Board of Education Representative Dr. LaJoy Johnson-Law @drlajoyjlaw, Deputy Mayor for Education Paul Kihn, Executive Director of School Safety Office Phillip Copeland, and Bard High School PTO Vice President Kiana Faucette. @barddcpto

I am calling on the National Guard not to Marshall, congregate, or patrol in or around school zones.

We also came up with some additional solutions to explore including:
✅ reviewing a State Board of Education resolution to help kids access REAL IDs
✅ discussing with WMATA training for Metro Transit Police and how coordination with National Guard troops is impacting kids who use Metro
✅ improving communication between schools and with Safe Passage about National Guard presence to support student safety and wellbeing
✅ requesting changes in the locations where the Guard meet and get ready for their shifts

As a reminder, I am also holding a public hearing on November 5th where residents can testify and share experiences about the increased federal presence and National Guard troops in the District. by @cmbrookepinto

I am so proud to represent the wonderful residents and businesses of Georgetown and was thrilled to join the Georgetown BID’s annual meeting to discuss our vision to ensure the neighborhood continues to lean into the unique access to the water, build a mix of retail, dining, and hospitality experiences, and is safe and smooth to get around for all modes of travel.

Georgetown attracts over 14 million visitors a year from across the world! Congrats to @deb_bilek and the entire @officialgeorgetowndc team for another excellent year! by @cmbrookepinto

The U Street/Shaw neighborhoods are home to hundreds of businesses and thousands of residents and offer thriving nightlife, dining, and culture.

I’m thrilled to introduce a bill with my colleague, Ward 1 Councilmember @brianneknadeau, to establish a Business Improvement District (BID) for these areas!

A BID will:
✅ help improve quality of life
✅ address public safety needs
✅ assist with management of public space
✅ coordinate support for businesses

Congratulations to the many businesses and community leaders who have been involved in this mission for years! by @cmbrookepinto

No family in DC should feel unsafe or intimidated in our school zones. Unfortunately, I continue to hear concerns from students, parents, and teachers about having armed National Guard troops congregate and station outside several of our schools – and we want to hear directly from our community about this presence.

I am partnering with Ward 8 State Board of Education Representative Dr. LaJoy Johnson-Law @drlajoyjlaw, the Bard High School PTO, and Bard High School to hold a community listening session to hear about people’s experiences with National Guard troops and federal agents near our schools.

Your voice matters in ensuring we all have safety in our communities – we want to hear from you. Join us on October 14th from 4-5 pm at Bard High School. by @cmbrookepinto

In DC, 41 percent of women will have experienced intimate partner violence, sexual violence, or stalking in their lifetimes – a staggering and wholly unacceptable reality. As we recognize Domestic Violence Awareness Month, we must recommit ourselves to honoring victims, supporting survivors, and working to end intimate partner violence.

My new bill called the “Supporting Survivors of Domestic Violence and Abuse Amendment Act” offers a critical set of tools to help combat domestic violence in our communities and uplift survivors.

If you or someone you know needs help, you can call the DC victim hotline at 844-4HELPDC or 844-443-5732. by @cmbrookepinto

In Ward 2, our corridors are buzzing – and keeping our roads and sidewalks accessible and safe for everyone is a top priority.

As the Department of Transportation reviews public feedback on proposed permitting rules for electric scooters and e-bikes in the District, I submitted my recommendations to ensure the changes put your safety first, which include:
✅ Limiting permit contracts to 2-year cycles
✅ Allowing public input in permitting application process
✅ Exploring geofencing to assist with parking requirements
✅ Enhancing public reporting on these contracts
✅ Conducting more research on zones for e-bikes and scooters
✅ Improving technology for parking requirements
✅ Identifying best sidewalk detection technology

We must make sure our infrastructure remains safe, accessible, and reliable for everyone.

Whether you’re taking the Metro, hopping on a Capital Bikeshare, or riding the bus – ditch the car keys this week for this year’s DC #WeekWithoutDriving! 🚆🚴‍♀️🚌

Let’s all help reduce traffic, cut down on emissions, and build a healthier community for everyone. We have amazing transit options in DC, but we want to know where the gaps are. @ggwash.official

Breaking the cycle of homelessness requires more than temporary shelter – it demands a foundation of comprehensive support. New Endeavors by Women (NEW) provides this critical lifeline for women and children experiencing homelessness in DC by offering the resources needed to build brighter, independent futures.

I am incredibly honored to receive NEW’s Advocacy Award in recognition of our continuing partnership to uplift women and families in DC experiencing homelessness and help them transition to safe, stable housing. @newendeavorsbywomen by @cmbrookepinto
