Breaking my not speaking in public rule because @milamilasaathibemilachor and I are designing rain water harvesting systems in Delhi. Starting this phase with individual homes.

The concretisation of the city means every year we see most of our rainwater running into drains instead of recharging the ground. The volume of groundwater generated in a week of heavy rain is 13 percent of Delhi’s annual water requirements.

I have been thinking about informal food systems created by women (and some men), and the kind of spaces I always seek for myself. A place of gardens and community. Of easy sharing. A place where nobody is made to feel small for asking, or for giving.
One of my greatest joys in the past few years has been carrying turmeric from my Didan’s garden to my friend PK in Mumbai. Watching it bloom there. And then, months later, receiving some of his harvest in return. by @cmburman

Never have I been able to put into words what my mother inspires in me. She creates life from scrap. When I was little, she used to make me dresses based on seasons and occasions. We would buy fabric & design them together.
She’s the OG thrifter. All my scrappy design aesthetics is just decades of watching her do this.
Since retirement, she has been making me these cute bags. Like this one, made from a thrifted curtain, lined with her old violet saree.
Every time I carry it, I remember warm summer days and her walking around the house in that soft cotton saree. It’s worth more than anything I have bought from the mall, and it’s fuckin’ cute.
This is what most women that I know are like - creating life and beauty from fragments & leftovers.
