Please join us in Guzzetta Hall Studio 194 for this original work in collaboration with the University of Akron Dance Program & special guests.

UA Assistant Professor of Practice - Christopher Coles, composed “Nine Lives,” a twelve-minute tone poem, in response to ongoing racial injustices in America. The piece is rooted in the tradition of protest music, integral to black music, and has since been expanded into a four-movement suite for jazz ensemble, incorporating various art forms like animation, spoken word, dance, and instrumental music to explore broader social issues.
