What makes our Bachelor of Education After-Degree Program unique?

Through thoughtful classroom discussions, insightful school placements, and Indigenous land-based education, our future teachers explore an approach to teaching that puts belonging and relationships at the centre of learning.

"Our task as educators is to create opportunities for learning where every kid knows they matter, every kid has a voice, every kid's identity is recognized and valued, and where school can become a place where they can learn and grow without fear of making mistakes," says Dr. Christine Kampen Robinson, Co-Chair of Education and Assistant Professor of Education and Social Sciences.

In a world of rising authoritarianism, what can resistance look like for individuals, communities, and movements?

Last week, CMU had the pleasure of hearing from Dr. Shayna Sheinfeld at the 2026 J.J. Thiessen Lecture Series. In three incredible lectures, Dr. Sheinfeld explored how resistance appears in the Bible through stories of women and other minoritized populations who challenged oppression. These lectures showed how these ancient figures offer powerful models of disruptive, subversive action for audiences today. CMU is deeply grateful to Dr. Sheinfeld for sharing her wisdom.

How can the topic of waste inspire new ways of learning?

Students and faculty in this year's Ways of Knowing course are exploring connections between disciplines through the lens of waste. From the classroom to invigorating field trips, students are discovering what and what is not categorized as waste through multiple perspectives.

For one of those field trips, Ways of Knowing students went to Westview Park, locally known as "Garbage Hill," a former dumping ground that provides stunning views of the Winnipeg skyline. Students were encouraged to make drawings of their surroundings and write about the connection between the views of the city and the waste that makes up the park.

Ways of Knowing continues this semester with a special guest lecture and a final creative symposium. CMU looks forward to seeing where students and faculty discover next in this journey. by @cmuwpg

What does hopeful leadership look like in uncertain times?

At "Taking Society Forward," co-hosted by CMU and Mennonite Economic Development Associates (MEDA), 150 business leaders, students and alumni gathered to explore how small businesses can help build stronger communities. Through an informative panel and insightful small-group discussions, participants learned from one another what responsible leadership should look like.

"One of the objectives was to cultivate students' interaction with business mentors and community mentors," says James Magnus-Johnston, Director of the Redekop School of Business and Assistant Professor at CMU. "The beautiful thing to watch was that even when the event was formally over, the conversations kept going."
