The Beach Party

When we chose Portugal—and the even less familiar town of Comporta—people would always ask us, “So, how did you pick that location?” Without much of a reason to give, Duncan eventually just started telling people I was Portuguese, just to make the whole thing sound a little less random lol

But really, this night was the reason Portugal had first popped into my mind nearly a year earlier: fresh paella cooking over an open flame, mezcalitas always within reach, and everyone dancing barefoot on a weathered deck as the sun set over the Portuguese coast. The perfect ending 🥹 by @cnavaaa

The Wedding Day

Possibly the most out of body experience was getting ready for my own wedding day. The morning started out calm, with the faintest buzz of excitement growing throughout the day. The excitement grew into almost unmanageable nerves while I waited by myself to get picked up & brought over to the ceremony. The ironic part is that the nerves melted away once the ceremony started, once I saw my parents and made eye contact with my soon-to-be-husband. With “Big E” cocktails, a father daughter slideshow to replace the dance, and the most epic underground party, the day felt full yet intimate. Naturally, nothing went perfectly, and I think that was part of what made it so good by @cnavaaa

The Welcome Party

We welcomed our guests to the beach town of Comporta — a place most had never been (including Duncan lol) — for an easy, sandy, summer night with poolside cocktails, fresh seafood, and heartfelt family speeches. Watching the sun filter through the umbrella pines and looking around at so many of our favorite people, who had traveled from all over to be there with us, was the most surreal and exciting way to start the weekend. taken in Comporta, Setubal, Portugal by @cnavaaa

I’ve seen what it looks like when the ability to run - or walk - is taken away. That’s why I’m running my 2nd NYC Marathon and first marathon with @tedysteam 💙

If sharing our story helps even one person recognize the signs of a stroke, take their health a little more seriously, or get to a doctor sooner, then it’s worth it. My dad is 3.5 years post-stroke, and I’m not sure where we’d be without the resources and support we’ve received over the years. Thanks to organizations like @tedysteam, more families can get the resources and support they need when navigating life after a stroke.
