Found the beat just few hours before show… to paint an even more vivid picture. 🎙️🎨Some stories don’t ask to be told the same way twice.This spoken-word piece/song is an autobiographical. Finding this beat just hours before taking the stage gave my words a new rhythm and another way to invite people into my journey.I’ve always believed poets and visual artists speak the same language—we simply use different mediums.As poets, we paint with metaphors, rhythm, vulnerability, and imagination. We transform life’s victories, heartbreaks, questions, healing, and hope into words that create pictures in the minds of those listening.Visual artists do something equally powerful. They take their experiences, emotions, and inner vision and transform them into paintings that allow us to physically witness what once only existed within them.Different mediums. One purpose.To make the invisible visible.Thank you to @redroom_dallas and @galerie.nadette for cultivating a space where creativity, vulnerability, and community can thrive. 💎✍🏾 “Not your average girl from the videos…”…the watch on my wrist stopped ticking years ago, but every time I step onto a stage, I realize its purpose never did. ➡️🩵Some people see a microphone.I see another opportunity to honor the woman who first believed in me, my mom.On my left wrist is my mama’s watch. It no longer keeps time, yet somehow it still keeps me grounded. Every poem, every stage, every moment that asks for courage reminds me that while the watch stopped… her love never did.I walk into most rooms solo to present at shows.So if you ever see me behind a microphone, know this…💎🩵✍🏾You’re witnessing faith.You’re witnessing grief transformed into purpose.You’re witnessing God’s grace carrying someone who often shows up alone..but is never truly alone.I’ve spent years showing up to coach, build my nonprofit, write, perform, and chase purpose without waiting for perfect circumstances or a crowd to walk in with me. 🧐 As coaches, we’ve all had those moments when it feels like our athletes aren’t paying attention.They’re laughing.They’re talking.Sometimes they’re even doing cartwheels on the baseline. 🤸🏽‍♀️😂Then, out of nowhere, we’re reminded of something powerful.They’re watching more than we realize. 🧠🏀They notice how we carry ourselves.They notice our attitude.They notice our effort.They notice how we respond to challenges.Even when it doesn’t look like they’re listening, they’re often absorbing the habits, body language, and energy we consistently demonstrate.💎 That’s why the standard we set matters. 🇺🇸📖 What does freedom sound like… when history still echoes in the present?Some books don’t just tell a story..they challenge the way we see the world.While reading The Hate U Give, I found myself reflecting on names, moments, and recurring patterns that continue to shape conversations across generations. 🧠↪️What are we doing with what we’ve been given?🎤 “Shout out to my ancestors…” #juneteenth 🌍This wasn’t just the opening of a poem, it was a reminder…🌍Every generation leaves us something. Wisdom. Sacrifice. Opportunity.The question is: What will we leave behind?Are we keeping in mind words, thoughts, memories we leave behind?✨ Thank you the Oak Cliff Empowerment Center @oakcliffempowermentcenter for inviting me to share my heart through spoken word at the Muslims for Oak Cliff gathering. Moments like these remind me that art has the power to connect people across different backgrounds through purpose.💫 An honor to have an opportunity to speak and celebrate Juneteenth’s purpose and impact.👇 Keep swiping…💭 One thing Victor, the director, shared has stayed with me..He spoke about how Malcolm X spent seven years in prison, yet within 10 months of his release, his message reached people around the world.That challenged me. @oakcliffempowermentcenter 📚 Knowledge isn’t meant to sit on a shelf.🎁 Gifts aren’t meant to stay hidden.❤️ Purpose isn’t meant to stop with us.If we’ve been blessed with wisdom, experience, or a skill that can help someone else…what are we doing with it?That’s the kind of question I want my life..and my poetry..to keep asking.🌱 This is why I write.Not because I have life figured out.But because I believe stories heal.Truth challenges.Poetry connects.And intentional living changes communities.Watching the Oak Cliff Empowerment Center pour into people..inside and outside the Muslim community, was inspiring.
