I’m lucky enough to spend my life around Sport.

Triathlon. Multisport. Snowsports.
Trails, pools, mountains and start lines.

What I’ve learned over the years is that performance rarely comes down to one session, one metric, or one race.

It’s built slowly — through consistency, curiosity, and a willingness to keep showing up when things aren’t perfect.

I coach athletes across a range of sports and levels.
First timers chasing their first finish line.
Age-groupers pushing for podiums.
Elite athletes trying to find the next small edge.

But the common thread is always the same:

People who love being outside, love the process, and want to see what they’re capable of.

This page is a window into that world —
the training, the learning, the adventures and the people who make endurance sport so rewarding.

Thanks for being here. by @coach_brazier

Committing back to training for myself needed balance, like for all age group athletes.

My commitment was for it not to negatively affect my coaching or family, but to enhance it.

I needed to involve my family, prioritise coaching over my training, and use my training to learn new principles.

Organising my time, having "No Excuses", and doing the best I can, with what I have that day is a really important lesson.

I'm reminded of it every day when I step in to the office, and everyone should remind themselves of it. It keeps you positive, optimistic and moving forwards.

⌚ WAS MY WATCH VO2 MAX ACTUALLY CORRECT? 🚴‍♂️💨

Fat Man to Ironman Update!

My Garmin reckons my VO2 Max is 39… but how accurate is that number really? 🤔

Rather than guessing, I headed into the lab with the legends at @peakformtesting to put myself through a proper VO2 Max bike test.

With the watts increasing by 15 at each stage, things got uncomfortable pretty quickly! 🥵

The result? 37.8 VO2 Max!

Turns out the watch wasn't too far off after all!

A massive thanks to the team at @peakformtesting for supporting my Fat Man to Ironman journey and helping me understand what's actually happening under the bonnet.

It's not just about getting fitter — it's about understanding where you're starting from, training smarter and measuring real progress.

Plenty of work ahead, but now we've got a baseline to beat! 💪

Follow the journey — Couch to Ironman, one test at a time!

A good decision today beats a great decision in two weeks.

Em’s ankle has been a big topic for us lately. Race or don’t race. Push through or pull back. Every day the answer changed, and every day she rode that roller coaster all over again. That’s the part people underestimate. The indecision itself is exhausting. It takes up space in your head that should be going into recovery, sleep and getting ready to perform.

Most of the time you won’t have perfect information. Waiting for it usually just means carrying the stress for longer. Make the call with what you know, commit to it, and adjust if you need to. That’s a far better place to train and race from.

In this episode we also cover everything Port Macquarie. If you’re heading there for Ironman Australia, have a listen before race week. Link in bio.

You’ve got to keep the stoke 🔥

Today we’re talking motivation.

There are so many things that can cause a dip. Life gets busy, plans change, or something goes wrong at the worst possible time. On this episode we chat about Em’s unfortunate ankle injury two weeks out from her race, what happens when you feel a bit rudderless and start to lose that fire, and the ways you can keep it burning.

Tim brings the wise words, and the reminder we all need sometimes: ultimately, we do this for fun.

Speaking of fun, we’re designing it right now. For our crew heading into off season training, we’re working on ways to keep a bit of structure while adding some extra special secret sauce to make things super interesting.

Cartel athletes, watch this space. Something’s coming your way 👀

Most of us: runs. Bounces. Hopes for the best.

Coach Brazier: “Economy is the oxygen or energy of running at a given submaximal speed.” 🤓

Thank god at least one of us knows what’s going on 😂

In plain English? Running economy is how expensive each kilometre is for your body. And in a 70.3 or an Ironman, you’re never running on fresh legs, so the cheaper each kilometre costs you, the faster you can go (or the same pace for less effort).

What wastes energy:

👀 Bouncing. If your head’s going up and down like a pogo stick, that’s energy going nowhere

🦶 Braking. Feet landing out in front of your body

🍑 Hips dropping and swaying side to side

The goal is to stay smooth, stable and still holding it together late in the run when everyone else is falling apart.

I’ve been informed (by @emz2ironman ) that my efforts at documenting my ankle recovery have been… underwhelming. A solid 3 out of 10 for content, apparently.

So consider this my redemption post

Weeks one to six were ergs. Then more ergs. Then, for something different, ergs.

Not exciting. Not worth a post at the time. But that’s the point. Recovery from an injury like this isn’t one big session that turns it around. It’s turning up and doing the boring work, day after day, when nobody’s watching and there’s nothing to show for it yet.

From there it was slowly layering in ankle mobility, then stability work. Bands, single leg work, patience. Lots of patience.
And then… the ski fields 🎿

Before anyone panics, it was in a locked boot. The boot holds the ankle and foot rigid, so there’s no rolling, no twisting, no load going where it shouldn’t. And the doc was all good with it.

Because rehab matters. But so does living. You can respect an injury and still find a way to get out there and enjoy yourself.

The boring work is what earned me that day. Stack it consistently and the good days come back. 💪

I’ve been an injury prone runner for as long as I can remember 🙃

I’ve coached myself. I’ve had other support. I’ve seen more physios than I can count. Calves, hips, stress fractures. Every time I started building, something broke.

Then I started working with @coach_brazier

And of course, I pushed it too hard. He watched, let me learn, then showed me what to actually do. Since then we’ve gone slow. We’ve been sensible. I’ve made better decisions. And for the first time, I’m running long without breaking.

What changed👇🏼

🐢 Durability over pace and distance. The goal is to still be running next month.

❤️ Keep it truly aerobic. Run by heart rate, even when it feels embarrassingly slow.

🚶‍♀️ Walk breaks are allowed. Walking in a long run isn’t failing, it’s how I get to finish it.

📵 Take the ego off Strava. Nobody cares about your pace as much as you do.

🏃‍♀️ Form, posture, drills. Running is a push, not a reach, and good form gets rehearsed every week.

If you’re always “coming back from a niggle”, this one’s for you 🧡

Most of the swim work I see people doing is about propulsion. Better catch, stronger pull, more power. All useful. But it’s the second thing, not the first.

If your hips are dropping, you’re swimming uphill. You’re dragging a shape through the water that doesn’t want to go through it, and every bit of power you add is just going into overcoming yourself.

Long body line. Tall neck. Head in the right spot. Hips up.

Get that and you go faster while doing less. It’s not a trick, it’s just physics. The quickest swimmers in the pool usually aren’t the strongest. They’re the ones taking up the least space in the water.

Sort the position. Then add the power.

This is the stuff we pull apart properly inside our coaching community on Skool. We’ve also got a few spots left at camp if you want hands on with it. Or just listen to the podcast, that one’s open to everyone.

This is why @emz2ironman and @coach_brazier make a good team. One of them is calm, sensible and completely unbothered. The other is six tabs deep comparing aero helmets at 11pm asking “but am I READY though?” Take a guess which one is Em 😂

Plot twist, this episode wasn’t even about Em’s Ironman. It’s about hills, and they finally answered the age old question: do hills actually pay the bills? ⛰️

Head to the podcast to find out. Bonus content includes Em rambling about her races that nobody asked to hear about
