Little bit of Summerville on repeat to keep the vibes flying on a Friday morning, well now afternoon..

New training in & getting back to torso limbs, but this time uber low volume, time to get strong & have a boat load of fun with it.

And that’s exactly it, you should be having a ton of fun when you’re on the gym floor, if you aren’t, why do it, after 6 months of ANT/POS I was bored rigid and just felt a bit meh about the sessions, I look back at earlier in the year when training had me feeling like a kid at Christmas & that was on no other than torso limbs, so that’s where we go!

Had the pleasure of having some good deep chats with @ali_ancoaching yesterday of all things life, nervous system regulation, evidence based coaching, nutrition, low volume training & all other things life, Ali is an amazing person & massively obsessed with the nuances of this game so being able to have conversations with like minded people is where I learn the best, in a very bitter and salt world there are some people who go against the grain and actually want to see people do well, he’s one of them, big up for the education & help my friend!

Spend time brushing shoulders with those who are better than you, it’ll rub off and you’ll learn a ton!

Full Session⤵️

Costal Pec Fly x1 (MRP*2)
Cybex Delt Press x1
GymLeco Press x2
Unilateral Cuffed Lateral x3

A few years ago I’d have scrolled past a post like this, but in my old age life has taught me a few lessons the hard way & I wouldn’t change a single one.

Some of these will sting, that’s for point!

If you’re in a season of figuring things out, don’t worry that’s called growth, change is scary but rewarding.

If this post helps at least one single person, then it’s a successful post.

Week 9 with Liam. same body, completely different physique🫵

On the right, he’s 1.5kg HEAVIER, eating 600 kcal MORE (now 4,600), and carrying visibly less body fat. That’s a superb recomp, and it happened despite him tearing his calf and hamstring on day one of the process.

How did we do this?

1. Zero gaps in nutrition.

Every variable accounted for: macros, micros, fibre, vitamins and minerals. When nothing is missing, the body becomes more efficient and more responsive. A healthy body is a happy, responsive body. Yes you should eat foods you enjoy, but they should all have a purpose driven towards the goal..

2. The proof is in the bloods.

Liam’s daily blood glucose readings have dropped from 5.8 to 3.4 mmol/L, even at 800g of carbs per day. He’s become far more carb sensitive, and his food is being used more efficiently.

3. Refined training.

Our biggest task was tightening up the process: set-up, execution, intensity and specificity, all aligned. Training performance is now at an all-time high.

The result is a synergistic effect. Better fuelled, more metabolically adapted, and training sitting at the forefront. The food drives the performance, the performance drives the change, and the body drops fat and builds under circumstances where most would have written the block off.

This is what happens when you’re coached with:

☑️Family-like care. Your wellbeing comes first, injuries and setbacks included.
☑️A higher level of education. Decisions backed by understanding, not guesswork.
☑️ Attention to the finer details. Because the details are where the results are.

04/10/26 - CHECK IN

What a weeeeeeeeeek ladies and gentlepeople, one of them weeks where the world just seems to be against you.

Ended up being ill twice within 5 days & a pretty mental gut flare up (the day I know what it is, will be one of the most rewarding days ever) & a boat load of sleep debt from the issue above, yeah it’s not been the best.

Butttt, these things happen, no point dwelling on it, had my time to sulk and sit in it, just a case of navigating out of rocky waters now, but I’m confident in myself & TT.

Sometimes life is going to throw life things your way, you’ll be able to control some of it but not all, what you can control, control it, what you can’t, don’t stress about it because there’s legit nothing you can do.

Is it ideal to have a week where you’ve been somewhat stagnant, no, but is there benefits to take away from it? Yes, trainings still be immense but time to manipulate things a tad & have a little play around with set up, this being majorly based around the limbs, especially the arms, I’ll say it every week🤣

A weird one here, looking tighter through certain regions but flat as a fart in others, still don’t look fat, so it’s Gucci..

4 Days Training - ANT/POS
TD: 3767kcals, 203g Protein, 603g Carbohydrates, 64g Fat
NTD: 3297kcals, 170g Protein, 475g Carbohydrates, 76g Fat
Steps: 8000/Day
CV: 3 x 20 Minutes

Food remains the same, but a change up in food choices to facilitate for better digestion and keeping my stomach as happy as it can be, a drop off in certain nutritional values means supplementation will be brought in to allow for a fully comprehensive nutrition panel🤠

Most people treat volume, intensity and frequency as three separate dials to crank whenever progress stalls. They’re not. They’re levers on the same system, and the moment you pull one, the others have to be manipulated to keep the whole thing recoverable.

Here’s how I actually decide.

I raise volume when the stimulus is too small to drive adaptation. If someone is hitting 6 to 8 hard sets per muscle per week, recovering fast, and still progressing slowly, the answer is more working sets, not more load. But every added set carries fatigue, so intensity of effort usually has to come down slightly (leaving an extra rep in reserve) or frequency has to go up so the sets are spread across more sessions and quality per set stays high.

I raise intensity when volume is already sufficient and the limiting factor is mechanical tension. If you’re accumulating plenty of sets but the loads haven’t moved in months, you’re doing junk volume. Heavier loading in the 5 to 8 rep range, closer to failure on the final sets, is the lever. The trade-off is that heavy work taxes the joints and nervous system more per set, so total volume often has to drop to compensate.

I raise frequency when a single session is already producing more fatigue than it’s worth. Past roughly 10 to 12 hard sets for a muscle in one day, the marginal sets contribute less stimulus and more systemic cost. Splitting that volume across two or three exposures lets you keep the effective reps high and the recovery window short, and it adds practice for the lift. The cost is time and schedule, plus a need to keep per-session volume modest so you’re not stacking fatigue back to back.

The skill is diagnosing which constraint is actually binding: stimulus, tension, or recoverability. Change one lever, observe for 3 to 4 weeks, and adjust the others in response. Progress comes from managing the interaction, not from maxing out any single variable.

Q4 here we go!

The final quarter of ‘26, already!

Using this as an opportunity to reflect on life this year & it’s been hard, easily the hardest year of my entire life, losing a parent figure, no matter your age, its life changing, it changes your perspective forever.

The first photo speaks for itself, flat, numb to the core, deathly looking, surreal amounts of fatigue, barely eating, barely sleeping, feeling generally hopeless and lost, the body always follows the mind.

After litres and litres of tears shed, bouts of anger & feelings of uncertainty things started to turn around slowly but surely, I know what my Nana would have wanted for me, she’ll be rooting for me, no matter what I do or whatever adventure I embarked on, that was all that was in my head, every thought, every action & every goal was to continue making her proud, that’s all the fuel I needed to continue doing I wanted to do, it’s all for her.

The biggest achievement of the year came in June, leaving the corporate world after 8 years to take the leap of faith & go full time with coaching & boy was it all worth it, bit of a cliche but I wish I done it years sooner, I am legit living the dream right now🫶

One person who’s for sure altered the trajectory of the year in the most positive manner, Mr TBT @tomtaylor_tbt - I don’t think Tom ever gets enough credit for how much of an incredible human he is, I may have only had the luxury of having him in my life properly for 4 months or so but it feels a life time, he doesn’t really know it but he’s saved me more times than he knows, he’s just always there, at the right time, with the right words and the right support, he’s someone who’ll be in my corner until the end of time & seeing him achieve what he is right now is very incredibly rewarding, how can you not want to be better when you have the most amazing support network around you? big love TT💜

Even if right now, life feels chaotic & unstable, you’ll come out the other end a stronger and wiser individual, keep pushing on.

A little shoutout to those in my life right now, you all play a pinnacle role in making life as great as it is, appreciate you all, big love, incredibly grateful🤜🏻🤛🏻 taken in UltraFlex Gym Durham by @coachbillywright

At some point, every individual looking to build muscle needs a fair amount of time where the physique stops being the priority and performance becomes the priority.

If you’re constantly trying to maintain immaculate condition, you’re asking your body to operate in a state that is fundamentally difficult to sustain.

The goal of an off-season isn’t to stay as lean as humanly possible but more to create an environment where you can train harder, recover better and actually add tissue.

That means accepting some body-fat gain, it’s natural, we all have body fat, it’s a pinnacle part of human physiology, it’s need to survive & thrive.

But it needs to be done in the correct manner, not uncontrolled weight gain, not an excuse to eat everything in sight, but enough energy availability to support the following:

- Training Performance
- Recovery Between Sessions
- Muscle Protein Synthesis
- Sex & Thyroid Hormonal Function
- Sleep & Systemic Recovery

But that’s just naming very few!

This is where the majority often get stuck.

You want to grow, but you also want to remain visually close to stage condition.

So calories stay unnecessarily low, cardio stays unnecessarily high, bodyweight increases are constantly resisted and every small change in condition triggers another adjustment.

You can’t simultaneously maximise growth and minimise every physiological consequence of gaining weight.

At some point, you have to decide what the current phase is actually for.

The biggest irony? The more aggressively you fight to maintain the look of your current physique, the more you can compromise your ability to build the next one.

Stage condition is a tool for competition, It doesn’t need to be your identity for the other 10–11 months of the year.
