Rebuilding the machine 🦿🦾

Joey came to me in May off the back of knee reconstruction wanting to rebuild his body.

There’s a lot to be said for walking the walk as a coach and being able to look and feel strong.

It was a complex case with an ACL rupture, complex tear on the medial meniscus, grade two MCL tear, LCL tear and patella tendinitis.

Part of the ITB was taken and rerouted it to the femur to provide some stability around the knee to help with recovery.

We spent time utilising isometrics and eccentric loading to rebuild some tendon / ligament strength whilst re-comping and dropping body fat before increasing stimulus and food.

Five months of gaining 6kg and increasing calories to 4200 total before running an aggressive mini cut over the last four weeks to peel back the layers at 2900 cals dropping 2.4kg

Wild to see the result over the last 6 months and despite navigating a pretty extensive recovery we nailed it 😮‍💨

Proud to be in this man’s corner 🖤

Men need to speak up.

As a man, a coach and someone who leads others I am.

I am speaking up and not staying silent.

I feel a deep obligation towards what’s going on right now.

Patriarchal structures were created by men to dominate and oppress women.

From childhood women have been fed the narrative through Disney films (run by white men) to be chosen and disempowered.

Yet women are the ones who give us life?

I am so grateful and honoured to have strong women in my life’s that carry so much and give so much life and joy to others.

I am blessed to know so many beautiful, strong women that want nothing more than a man to truly see them and appreciate them for who they are.

This isn’t men vs women.

This is women standing up against the systems that have oppressed them throughout history.

They’re waiting for the men who created them to stand up and realise that it’s wrong and speak up alongside them to support them in creating true equality.

Men, we need to do better.

Nothing but love.

Dave 🖤

Struggling for time?

Not seeing progress in the gym and your goal is to build muscle?

This is where intelligent training methods come into play.

You don’t NEED to spend hours in the gym to build tissue.

Your body responds to a stimulus not time spent training.

These are some of the methods I like to use not only in my own training but in clients programming.

Bonus: Full workout example on the last page

Curious about spending less time in the gym whilst maximising your results?

Load management.

A unifying concept we have to be conscious of when training and managing volume.

Injury isn’t necessarily caused by the load it’s caused by what your tissues aren’t prepared for.

If the applied force exceeds tissue tolerance you’re going to run into some problems quite quickly.

Understanding that all tissue has different timelines when it comes to adaptation is also a key player.

Muscles adapt in weeks.

Tendons and ligaments take months.

That gap is usually where people get hurt.

It’s not about de training it’s about the right dose progressed at a speed that allows for adaptation.

If someone comes to me with an injury or issue I look at the following 👇🏻

👉🏻 Spikes in training volume

👉🏻 New stimulus with no ramp

👉🏻 Load added faster than recovery allows (sleep, stress, fuel)

👉🏻 Avoiding the injured area and not rebuilding strength here

Capacity is built over time allowing for greater durability.

Remember the best way to make more progress and build more strength and muscle is to not get injured in the process.
