What a way to jumpstart the juco basketball season! Coach Ivey and I had a great time at the Southwest Juco Jamboree watching talented young women compete! The energy, effort, and competitiveness were on full display!

A few reminders for every student-athlete chasing that next opportunity:

🏀 Your effort is your introduction. Coaches notice how hard you play, even when the ball isn’t in your hands.

🏀 Your body language speaks volumes. How you respond to mistakes, coaching, and adversity matters.

🏀 Be a great teammate. Celebrate others, communicate, and bring energy whether you’re on the floor or the bench.

🏀 Do the little things. Defend, rebound, sprint the floor, and make winning plays. Those things separate you!

🏀 Stay ready. You never know who’s watching or when your opportunity will come.

Remember, recruiting is about more than your stats. Your habits, attitude, toughness, and character tell a story, too.

Great basketball, great competition, and a great reminder of why we love this game! Wishing every program a healthy, successful season ahead! Excited to see more teams tomorrow in Carrollton! 🐺👀🐺👀 taken in Mansfield, Texas by @coachk_dst

Happy Birthday to my Dawg! 🥳

Coach Ivey, you are caring, protective, insightful, and truly one of those people who makes life better just by being in it. Somewhere along the way you became another sister, so unfortunately for you… you’re stuck with me for life 😂🤞🏾

As a coach, the way you balance empathy with accountability is special. You love your players, pour into them, challenge them, and help them grow, any young woman is lucky to be under your tutelage. Love you, sis! Happy Birthday! ❤️ taken in University of West Georgia by @coachk_dst

In 2020, I recruited a basketball player. Somewhere along the way, I gained a daughter. 💙

I’ve watched her grow, fight through hard things, take chances on herself, fall, get back up, and keep becoming the woman I always knew she could be.

Tonight, I’m sitting thousands of miles away watching her play PROFESSIONAL basketball in Chile… and I’m emotional. 🥹🇨🇱🏀

One of the greatest privileges of my life has been simply being someone she knows will be there. Through every season, every transition, every high and every low I’m not leaving my kiddo.

The jersey has changed. The country has changed. She’s grown up right before my eyes. But one thing hasn’t changed:

That’s my kiddo, my “Big Dawg.” And I’m ALWAYS watching. 💙

Go be great, Lish. You earned this moment. They really do grow up so fast. 🥹 taken in Carrollton, Georgia by @coachk_dst

I hope people watch the new A Different World. And if you’ve never seen the original, please watch that too.

I went to a PWI, and I still understand how much it matters for young people to see an HBCU at the center of a story. The original gave us a campus full of Black students who were brilliant, messy, funny, outspoken, and still figuring out who they wanted to be. It made that world feel possible to people who had never set foot on an HBCU campus, including me.

That kind of storytelling feels necessary in this climate. When HBCUs face challenges and conversations about race and Black history are treated as something to restrict, our young people need to see their education, their voices, and their futures celebrated. They deserve a Hillman that speaks to their lives.

To my generation and those older: let’s watch with fresh eyes. We can love the original without asking this cast to recreate our memories. Give them room to become somebody’s favorite characters in their own right.

And please, enough with the demeaning comments about Jasmine Guy and Cree Summer’s appearances. These women helped open doors and gave us performances we’re still talking about decades later. They were allowed to grow older. We’re lucky we get to see them return.

Watch both versions. Talk about what they make you think and feel. Let the original remind you what representation did for us, then give the new generation a chance to experience that for themselves. taken in Hillman College by @coachk_dst

If our staff was a 90’s sitcom 😂📺🏀 Different personalities. Different roles. One heck of a cast. Wouldn’t trade this crew. 💙 taken in University of West Georgia by @coachk_dst

For the men in sports who somehow need this explained:

Imagine someone created an AI video of your coach slapping your mother, wife, sister, or daughter, and one of the most recognizable athletes in the sport publicly laughed at it.

Would “it’s just AI” suddenly make it funny?

The slap may not have physically happened, but the woman is real. The humiliation is real. The message it reinforces, that violence against women is acceptable entertainment is real.

Holly Rowe is a respected professional who has spent decades covering and elevating college sports. Turning her into the target of a violent, misogynistic joke is degrading. Laughing at it publicly helps normalize it.

Leadership is not only about how you behave when the cameras are on. It is also about what you endorse, amplify, and dismiss as “just a joke.”

If empathy only appears once the woman being disrespected belongs to you, then we have a much bigger problem. by @coachk_dst

Before I ever knew who I wanted to become, I was surrounded by women who showed me. 🤎

I come from prayer. I come from sacrifice. I come from strength, faith, laughter, wisdom, and women who knew how to make a way out of no way. Everything I am carries a little piece of them.

Some people inherit things. I inherited women. And that might be the greatest inheritance of all.

Happy Grandparents Day to the ones who helped raise me, prayed over me, poured into me, and gave me roots strong enough to grow wings. 🕊️🤎

Their love is my legacy. Their strength is in my DNA. by @coachk_dst
