Three days to make a film. That's the Hawaiʻi Filmmakers Collective 72 Hour Film Challenge.

Kainoa Rudolfo (@coachkainoa), co-founder of @hifilmmakers, on why the screening is his favorite night of the year: a full theater clapping, laughing and crying together over art that was made in three days.

This year's films screen this Sunday, September 27, 5:00 to 7:00 pm at the Doris Duke Theatre. Brian is one of this year's judges, so come out and support local filmmakers. Tickets are through the Honolulu Museum of Art and the night tends to sell out, so grab yours early.

On this date in 1931, a night in Honolulu set in motion events that would change the lives of five young men and their families.

The five were accused and brought to trial. The jury reached no verdict. Before a second trial could take place, Joseph “Kalani” Kahahawai was abducted and killed on January 8, 1932.

We share this history with care for Kalani, for the other four men, and for the families who have carried its weight. Ala Moana Boys tells part of the story from the perspective of the five accused men. Today, we remember Kalani as a person, not just a name in a case.
