A little over two years ago, I was training to compete in track and field for the first time since 2014.

Probably in the best shape I’ve ever been since my collegiate career ended.
I ignored the little aches and pains, attributing them to trying to train like a 23 year old in a 30 year old body. What went from tingly toes i thought were from my shoelaces being too tight, turned into lower back pain that had me convinced I had slipped a disc in my vertebrae.

Fast forward 2 MRI exams a trip to the eye doctor and a lumbar puncture I’ll never forget.

I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. Had to relearn almost every part of my body and how to use it again. Physical therapy, mental health therapy, support from my wife, dog, family, friends, anonymous Reddit threads.

A commitment to get as close back to “normal me” as possible. Normal me was box jumping 52 inches for reps.
2 years ago I couldn’t get off the ground. Today we got 42 inches on camera.

🏴‍☠️ PSA for the youngins: we need YOU on the cross country team 🏃
We can't win an NCS championship in track and field if nobody's running the 3200 (two miles). You don't have to be the fastest, just be IN it, get a placement, do your best!
Sign up. Represent the Pirates.

6 years ago today. While working as a long term sub, with a group of high school seniors I had met 3 months prior. The world was shutting down. We were told spring break would go from 1 week to 2 weeks to “flatten the curve”

We never stepped into that room together again.

But we had a makeshift graduation that day.
