Nice look at 2026 Texas commit Trey Rangel (@treyrangel3) working a few live at-bats this week in the facility.

96 looks and sounds different 👀💥

Trey has been sitting 94-96 in game this summer and topped 98. The SL is as nasty as ever and the kick change is becoming a true weapon.

Excited to see this dude finish the summer circuit strong and prep for what’s sure to be a big senior year.

Covered almost 2000 miles via plane + car last week on an awesome trip going to see a couple of my OG’s in SEC country and working with a couple of high school programs in Georgia and Louisiana

Long-term relationships, new relationships, COLLECTIVE collaboration with my dudes @k9baseballdevelopment @propelhitting @cwhiteperformance @elevationhitting

There are so many amazing coaches across this game and I love connecting with new coaches and athletes

There’s also nothing better than seeing guys I’ve worked with for a long time in their element!

Baseball is the best game on the planet and I’m doing everything I can to continue to push the game and player development forward 👊 by @coachschweiss

THE COLLECTIVE | INDIVIDUALIZED DEVELOPMENT. TEAM-WIDE IMPACT.

Different athletes. Different movement strategies. Different needs. One common goal — maximize each player’s potential.

The Collective brought together Nomad Baseball, K9 Baseball Development, Casey White, and Propel Hitting for a comprehensive team assessment with North Gwinnett High School Baseball.

Our focus went beyond collecting data.

We evaluated each athlete through motor preference assessments and force plate testing to better understand how they naturally move, produce force, and organize their bodies.

But the real value is in the IMPLEMENTATION.

Taking that information, educating players and coaches, and showing them how to apply it to individualized training, player development, and the overall baseball program.

Because the goal isn’t to make every athlete move the same. It’s to understand what makes each athlete different and build a development process around it.

Four groups. One Goal!
Huge thank you to North Gwinnett High School for trusting The Collective with their athletes and program.

How can we begin to make meaningful changes early in a pro offseason?

The skill demand is really low early in the pro offseason with no high intent throwing, no mound work, etc

So how do you challenge a pro pitcher early in the offseason?

In this instance, we are:

Challenging a pitcher’s ability to subconsciously make adjustments in real time

Constraining movements to allow the athlete to search for new movement solutions

With the goals of:

Allowing the athlete to search for new solutions

Understanding what solutions and limitations the athlete currently has

Keeping the athlete engaged in a low-intensity throwing phase

Change the target, ball flight, implement, and ultimately the task. Not randomly. But systematically moving the athlete towards new and more efficient solutions to solve for a certain variable.

When working on changing or cleaning up the arm action, there are many ways to go about it

Knowing as much as you can about the athlete is key 🔑

Being able to properly diagnose the root cause of the issue is also incredibly important 👨‍⚕️

By removing variables, we can funnel the movement solution towards a more healthy or efficient option ✅

These options serve as a starting point and have to be progressed towards throws that more resemble the mound or the environment the athlete has to perform in

As always, transfer is everything

Going to start showing my face on here more 😬 so feel free to drop a comment and let me know what you think or any topics you’d like me to cover by @coachschweiss

Improving command with specific vision cues 👁️ 🎯

We see because we move and we move because we see.

You can’t separate vision and movement. Everything matters and it’s all interconnected.

When you know a pitcher’s target eye, motor preferences, and vision quadrant, cool things can happen with command

Garret ( @garret_carter1 )is an elite arm but struggles a little bit with FB command/control. This bullpen we focused on driving the heater to the glove side.

When Garret tries to get to his glove side, he has a tendency to open early which ends up in an arm side miss or a pull-yank.

Earlier in the week, we played around with a visual target during his drill work and it improved both his command and his head positioning into ball release.

The cue in this video is very specific to Garret and won’t work for everyone.

But when starting to address a command/control issue—start with the question “where are you looking?” and then “what do you see?”

Some guys can lock in on the intended target, others need to find it late, and others need to see it out of their peripheral vision first. by @coachschweiss

Get out of the sweeper mindset to throw a slider with more sweep… 🤔

In this bullpen with @r_sanford14 we wanted to focus on slider shape as it had been inconsistent and lacked depth, often turning into more of a lifty cutter.

Rob has a pronation bias but had been trying to create a lot of horizontal movement on his slider.

For better or for worse, the shape you try to create with a pitch will dictate how the arm, wrist and fingers pull through release.

If that shape doesn’t match structural and neurological biases, the pitch shape will be inconsistent.

In this case, Rob was “casting” his hand out away from him trying to create a big horizontal shape with the slider. This caused him to get stuck behind the ball leading to more of a cutter shape.

We talked about energy transfer and direction into the baseball and got him out of the sweeper mindset. And what do you know, he found a slider with MORE depth and MORE sweep!

But he was getting to the right spot at release more naturally and directing energy into the baseball in a way that allowed him to get more to the front of the ball.

The sweeper can be a great pitch but if you’re not a true supinator and have some other physical characteristics to throw a true sweeper, it might be beneficial to get out of the sweeper mindset.

Everything matters and everything is connected.

What we think influences how we move. How we move influences pitch characteristics.

We can’t separate when it comes to skill acquisition. by @coachschweiss

Changeup Targeting 🎯

Too often I see RHP trying to throw the “perfect” changeup down and away to a LHH (low and gloveside)

The problem with this, especially RHP that have a wide release (towards 3B), is that it doesn’t leave much room for error. If the CH starts on the outer edge of the plate, it’s only a “strike” for a very short period of ball flight.

Which means it becomes an easy take. Even if the metrics show it’s a good pitch.

Rather than trying to be so good getting down and to then gloveside, I think a lot of pitchers should target the CH over the middle of the plate.

It needs to be down in the zone obviously but this leaves more room for error and gives a better chance at forcing a swing decision from the hitter.

Pitching is all about forcing late swing decisions and the more we can throw pitches that start as a strike and end up as a ball or vice versa, the better chance we have of missing barrels and stealing strikes.

Don’t overcomplicate it! Have an understanding of your arm angle, release angle, and how your pitches move through space. Then use that info to find the right target for each of your pitches.

The Trackman ball flight visual gives a great look at the first changeup in this video compared to the next one. The first one is never a strike. The second one crosses the strike zone and even though it ends up below the zone, it likely forces the hitter to make a swing decision.
