Same couple.
Two different weddings.
@kimobrit @seanymag7

Coaching in between.

The difference?
Consistent work over time.

Kim and Seánie came in with a goal—
be ready for their own wedding this summer.

Same goal. Different lives.
So they didn’t follow the same plan.

Kim locked in—PT, classes, nutrition.

Seánie kept it simple—
gym work, walks, swims around a busy schedule.

No extremes. No shortcuts.
Just showing up and following through.

Full credit to them—
they did the work.

This is what that leads to.

If you’re putting effort in but not seeing change…
it’s usually not effort.
It’s direction.

Get in touch.

Tryka ready
Over a year of consistent work.

Not jumping between plans.
Not chasing quick fixes.
Just building structure, habits, and showing up.

Today, Kim and Ann step into their first TRYKA event.

What you’re seeing now isn’t luck or timing.
It’s the result of months of training, small wins, and building confidence piece by piece.

Stronger.
Fitter.
More capable.
And now ready to test it.

Proud of both of you and the way you’ve approached this from day one.

This is exactly what it looks like when training starts to carry over into real life.

Go enjoy it. #confidence

**54. Still competing. Still learning. Still challenging myself. 💪**

I've just come back from competing at HYROX Boston, and a lovely message I received before the race got me thinking about something I've always believed in.

Looking after ourselves physically and mentally, continuing to train, pushing our boundaries and not allowing age to define what we're capable of.

I believe in leading by example. But you don't need to compete in HYROX to benefit from that approach.

Maybe you've trained for years but lost some consistency. Maybe you're putting in the work but not seeing the progress you want. Or maybe you're ready for your next challenge.

**Fitness is about having options.**

Having the strength, fitness and confidence to trust your body. To say yes to opportunities, take on new experiences and lean into challenges rather than shy away from them.

That's what we're building at Compass Coaching.

I'll bring the experience, coaching, structure and support. You bring the commitment and willingness to put the work in.

**Train for the life you want to live.**

If you've trained before and you're ready to see what you're capable of, drop me a message. Let's have a chat.

✈️ **An overnight flight from Boston to Dublin. Almost NO jet lag the next day!**

After competing at HYROX Boston, I had an overnight flight home, landing in Dublin at 7:30 a.m.

By 6 a.m. the following morning, I was feeling good and ready to get back coaching.

So what did I do?

**Here are the 7 steps that worked for me.** 👇

💧 **1. Hydrate before flying**
Plenty of water in the hours leading up to the flight.

🕒 **2. Switch to destination time**
Changed my watch to Irish time as soon as I boarded.

😴 **3. Prioritise sleep**
Eye mask, earplugs and a proper effort to sleep during the flight.

☕ **4. Start the morning right**
Shower, plenty of water, a good breakfast and a large coffee to help with alertness.

☀️ **5. Get natural daylight**
Straight outside for a long beach walk. Daylight helps your body clock adjust.

🚶 **6. Keep moving**
A light lunch, an afternoon working in the garden and no lying around on the couch.

🛏️ **7. Get back to a normal bedtime**
Stayed awake until the evening, slept through the night and woke at 6 a.m. ready for work.

Was I tired at times? Absolutely.

But a little planning and a few simple steps made a massive difference to how quickly I settled back into my routine.

Whether you're flying to a HYROX event, heading away on holidays or travelling for work, these are some things worth considering.

📌 **Save this for your next long-haul flight.**

And let me know in the comments — **what's your best tip for beating jet lag?**

**A little Boston recovery run 🇺🇸🏃‍♂️**

Out for a lovely 6K shakeout run this morning, taking in some of the parks, residential streets and neighbourhoods around Boston.

No pressure on the pace, just getting the legs moving, enjoying the surroundings and taking the opportunity to explore a bit of the city.

Finished up at @tattebakery for breakfast. Fantastic shakshuka, some lovely eggs and a well-earned coffee. ☕🍳

As for HYROX Boston, we're currently sitting in **6th position** in our category. Happy enough with how the race went, and we'll see where we finish once all the results are in.

A great few days in Boston. Racing, running, exploring and enjoying the experience.

**Train hard, enjoy the journey, and remember there's more to fitness than just the competition.**

I want to finish this year feeling stronger, fitter and ready for what’s next. That starts now.

Busy morning before heading to Boston: breakfast, into the gym, some stretching, two PT sessions, coffee, then home to get ready for the airport. A bit of online coaching work in the lounge before boarding. ✈️

Looking forward to getting out there and competing at HYROX. I love having something to train for it gives the work a purpose and keeps me accountable too.

Then it’s time to lock in for HYROX Dublin and the rest of the year. Get consistent with my own training, keep building Compass Coaching and get the app ready to launch.

The same things I ask of the people I coach: make a plan, give it time in your week and keep showing up, even when life is busy.

Swipe across for a quick update before I fly.

What would you like to achieve before the year is out? 👇#HYROXBoston #HYROXDublin #HYROXTraining #CompassCoaching #FitnessOver40 taken in Dublin Airport by @coachterryroy

Would you be interested in a Compass Coaching subscription workouts ready to follow, a community to be part of and challenges to keep you moving?

I’m working on a membership that brings together:

• Workouts for home, in the gym and on the go.
• Mobility sessions to help you loosen up and move well.
• Community challenges to give you a focus and something to work towards.
• A place to share progress, ask questions and encourage each other.

If you already have a gym membership, this can fit alongside it. Train in the gym when you can get there, with a home session ready for the days work, family or other commitments change your plans.

I used one of the 25-minute mobility sessions in a hotel gym while away in London. Opened the app, grabbed a few bands and followed along. I finished feeling loose, energised and ready for bike rides, coffees and exploring the city.

Having the session ready made it easy to get it done. That’s what I want this membership to offer you, alongside the encouragement of people working towards their own goals.

Does that sound like something you’d use? Comment “COMPASS” or send me a message. #CompassCoaching #FitnessCommunity #OnlineFitness #HomeAndGymWorkouts #TrainAnywhere taken in Ireland by @coachterryroy

Nice easy start to the day in London

30 minutes in the hotel gym this morning, just stretching, moving and loosening everything out.

Breakfast and coffee next, get the client check-ins done, then head out and see what London has to offer.

Bit of sightseeing, plenty of biking, probably a few more coffees ☕️ and I’ll definitely be checking out a few gyms along the way.

Not a bad way to spend a Friday. Nice easy start to the day in London 🇬🇧

✈️ London for the weekend 🇬🇧

Looking forward to switching off for a few days and enjoying one of my favourite cities.

No big plans and definitely no rigid schedule.

Maybe a Parkrun 🏃‍♂️
Probably a gym session 🏋️‍♂️
Plenty of walking 🚶‍♂️
A few miles around London on the @forestandflock bikes 🚲
Good coffee ☕
Good food 🍽️
Hopefully we will have a couple of nice meals out
…and plenty of time just enjoying the city.

For me, this is what having a good relationship with training looks like.

You don’t have to choose between staying active and enjoying yourself. Training can be part of your life without your life having to revolve around training.

So this weekend, I’ll move because I enjoy it, eat well because I enjoy that too, and hopefully get a bit of London sunshine along the way.

A few days to recharge, reset and enjoy ourselves. 🙌 #WorkLifeBalance #TrainForLongevity #FitnessOver50 #StrengthForLife #HealthyLifestyle taken in London, England by @coachterryroy

🌧️ Wet. Windy. Still showed up.

It definitely wasn’t the nicest morning for a run in Bettystown, but that’s part of what the Compass Coaching Run Club is about.

You won’t always wake up to sunshine and perfect conditions. Sometimes consistency is simply getting out the door when it would be much easier to stay at home.

A few of us met at Evalynn this morning, got the run done together, encouraged each other along the way and held each other accountable.

Then back inside for a well-earned coffee and a chat. ☕️

That combination of training, accountability and community is what I love about these mornings.

You don’t have to be the fastest runner.

You just have to keep showing up.

Another Sunday in the bank. 🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🌧️

Stress fractures are showing up more in the hybrid and middle distance crowd lately. Sat down and actually looked into why instead of just guessing.

It's rarely one thing. It's usually something new introduced without the buildup mileage jumping too fast, hybrid training stacking fatigue on top of running, a new surface, a switch to carbon shoes with no transition.

The one nobody wants to hear: running more and eating less isn't discipline, it's how you weaken the exact bone taking the pounding. A deficit as small as 300 calories a day, kept up over time, is enough to do it.

If something's aching in a bone and it's not easing with rest, or it's there at night get it scanned. Don't guess.

This is based on high level research and conversations I've pulled together and patterns I'm seeing, not a diagnosis for anyone specific. If you're dealing with something, go get it looked at properly.

Has this happened to any of you? What actually got you back running?#HybridAthlete #HyroxTraining #HyroxAthlete #StressFracture #RunningInjuryPrevention taken in Drogheda, Ireland by @coachterryroy
